He was tall and lean, his complexion pale. The man's long dark hair just barely ended above his shoulders, his bangs hiding his dark burgundy eyes. Yet his eyes were sharp, as if nothing could escape their view.

He was radiant, despite his simple garb of a white dress shirt and black dress pants, as he stood in the shadows of the trees. I could not help but glance his way a few times, and I'm sure I wasn't discreet enough for him not to have noticed. His presence was nerve-wracking to me, and I wondered at his idle standing, not doing a thing but leaning against a tree. The other passer-bys did not seem affected by him standing there.

I eventually tried harder to put him out of my head, focusing my energy on my book. But as I tried to imagine the rolling hills described in my book, my mind pictured a lean, dark-haired man standing under a tree instead.

I released a sigh, giving in to defeat. I looked about me for my bookmark and found it resting by me on the bench, twitching in the breeze. As I reached for it, a large gust of wind came and took it from me. I stood up quickly, chasing after it. My bookmark landed amongst some blades of grass, in the shade of a tree. As I crouched to get it, my eyes set on it, a pale long-fingered hand picked it up.

As my gaze followed the hand to the rest of the body attached to it, shock ran through my body and ended in embarrassment. My cheeks flushed as I came face to face with the very person I had tried to avoid thinking of.

I dared to look up into his burgundy eyes and at his handsome pale face. When I saw his smile, my knees seemed to falter.

"Here you are, miss," he said in a soothing voice, holding out my bookmark.

"T-thanks," I stammered out, my cheeks flushed once again. I stood awkwardly before him for a moment, when he laughed lightly. I looked up at him as he took my hand with his cool pale ones. He lay open my palm and placed my bookmark in it before closing my fingers around it.

He smiled once more at me, "You should be more careful."

THE END

Author's Note: Hey there everybody! Sorry, I wrote this some time ago, when it seemed I was being bombarded by vampires right and left. Just thought I'd post it here, because even though it's short and sweet, I kind of really like it. ^_^ And no, i will not be continuing this story. I've got enough stories demanding to be finished and begun.

Thanks again for reading! ^_^
