Stella frowned when she opened the door to the apartment and heard Frank Sinatra's voice drifting towards her. Usually when she got home, Flack and Cara were having their reading time, and she would join them before she would join them before she or Flack got up to fix dinner. But as she walked into the living room, an entirely different sight greeted her.
The coffee table was moved out of the way, and Flack stood in the middle of the room. He held Cara in his arms, and they moved to the music, both of them grinning widely. Cara had her arms looped around Don's neck and she laughed loudly as he twirled her around and dipped her close to the ground.
Stella just stood and stared. She had never imagined that she would find someone who would love her daughter as his very own, but she had found that and more with Donald Flack. He treated them both like queens, and the smile on his face every time he saw Cara melted her heart.
With another turn, Don's eyes finally settled on his fiance. Winking at her, he dipped Cara one final time as the song faded out, and then set her down on the ground. When she saw her mother, Cara ran forward, her arms out wide.
"Mommy!"
"Hey baby," she said with a smile, scooping the little girl up into a hug. "How are you today?"
"Good. Daddy and I were dancing."
"I saw that. You're a pretty good dancer."
She shrugged. "He was teaching me about..." She turned to look at Don. "I forgot his name."
Flack smiled. "Frank Sinatra."
"Right. That guy. Daddy said he was a great singer."
"Yes he was," Stella murmured. "You hungry?"
Cara nodded. "Daddy is too. I heard his tummy growling."
Flack shrugged shyly. "Didn't have time for lunch today."
Stella winked at him. "Let's see what we can do about that."

After dinner was finished and the dishes were cleared away, and after Cara had been bathed and tucked into bed, Flack and Stella moved back out into the living room. The coffee table was still displaced, and Don moved over to the CD player, turning it back on. Stella smiled as she heard the first notes of "The Way You Look Tonight," and she glanced over her shoulder at Flack.
"Dance with me?" he asked quietly.
"Of course."
He pulled her close, taking her right hand in his and holding it over his heart. They moved slowly, breathing each other in as they let everything else fall away. Reaching up, Don ran his fingers through her hair and moved his mouth to her ear, his voice low and soft.
Yes
you're lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheeks so
soft,
There is nothing for me but to love you,
And the way you
look tonight."You sure know how
to make a girl feel special," she whispered with a smile.
He kissed her softly, letting his fingers drift over the diamond she now wore on her left hand. "I love you," he murmured, his blue eyes shining in the light.
Stella rested her cheek against his. "I love you, too."
