I had just left for ten minutes to get macadamin nuts and I came back to this. Nora was no where to be seen . the only ones there were my sisters in laws Kitty and Sarah. Kitty looked at me dejected but as always Sarah had something to say " Scotty she thinks kevin is coming to this rediculaus birthday dinner I had to say something." I put my hand up." Sarah you did what? How could you?" I looked at her " Wait don't tell me , I don't want to know. Where is she?" Kitty pointed "Upstairs."
I rushed past them and headed up stairs stopping only when I came to Nora`s bedroom door. Since day one of my relationship with Her son and our eventual marrage. Nora Walker had welcomed me like a son. The joke in the family was that out of all the Walker spouses, I was her favorite son inlaw. And maybe I was, but i didn't care. All that mattered was that Nora was ok.
When I got to her bedroom door I tapped on it softly. No answer, but it was open so I went over to the bed where my mother inlaw lay on the bed. I sat down and gently touched her leg. " Nora?" Nothing, "Nora?" I got on to the bed and lay beside her and put my arms about her shoulders. I knew i had to snap her out of this . I rested my chin gently on her shoulder like I often did with her son.
" You know something Nora, this is the first time in my life i have ever been in a woman's bed. Its kinda nice to cuddle with a woman. I could get use to this," I buzzed in her ear. She looked at me and broke out laughing as she sat up and swatted me " Oh shut up." We both broke out giggling. I put my arm around her waist and gently kissed her cheek." Come on we got company coming and we got a dinner to prepare, Kevin or no kevin. We will have a another great and crazy Walker family dinner.. you in or out?"
Nora smiled at me "In. Now come on Lets get back to that kitchen, we got carrots to chop,"
