Best Left Forgotten

I wrote this on a whim so I'm not sure if I'll continue or not. I just felt like sharing. I guess if you want me to I will. It's super short too because I consider it a prologue thingy.

Hidden away in the back of an old drawer lay a destroyed diary. A gaping hole was in the center, and it was completely unusable. The ruined leather hadn't seen daylight in years. The yellowed pages haven't been turned for a long while. That is, until Hermione Granger got her hands on it.

She hadn't meant to find it; she was just tidying things up a bit. But she found it none the less, and she can't set things back no matter how hard she wished she could.

Hermione didn't think she would discover anything interesting when she opened the chestnut drawer, maybe some dust, a couple of old quills, nothing that mattered. Instead of rubbish, she found the diary. Her eyes widened when she realized just what it was. It wasn't an ordinary diary, oh no, it was Tom Riddle's horcrux diary. And it was just her luck that she was the one who found it again.

Even though she knew the horcrux was destroyed, she still felt weary of it. With the powers that it had once possessed who knew what other dangerous things it could hold. Hermione opened the book up, and it opened smoothly despite the age. The once white pages were now yellow and covered in ink splatters. The expected blank pages were not blank, however. A single sentence was scrawled in elegant handwriting at the top.

"Subesset animo qui semel fuerit denuo inductae."*

Though she did not say it aloud, did not put any thought into it what so ever, the words began to glow. Slightly frightened, and a little more than surprised, she dropped the book. The words grew brighter second by second. Hermione watched, fascinated yet worried. She squinted her brown eyes as the light got to the point of almost being blinding. Then, almost as quickly as it had come, the light faded and the book was normal again. She sighed in relief. Nothing had happened. She relaxed then went on red alert when a voice from behind spoke.

"So, I see you've found my diary."

There you have it.

*Latin: roughly translates to "The soul who once lurked shall be brought forward again." I say roughly because I used Google Translate.
