Sam closed her locker with a loud crash and rested her forehead upon the cold surface. They say you shouldn't form relationships with patients, something Sam is usally rather good at, but when they'd been so helpful to you so you could make it through a tough time, it's hard to let go when they're gone.

Sam clenched her fists and raised her head as Charlie walked in. She relaxed when she saw his welcoming face. "I know it's hard when a patient dies Sam, but we have to stay professional," She sighed before her anger was unleashed. "Don't you understand Charlie?" She clenched her fists again and turned to face her locker. "That young lad might have just been another money clip to you, but he helped me make the biggest descision of my life!"

"Oh yeah? And what would that be?" Charlie rarely gets angry, but Sam had overstepped the mark when she referred to their patient as a 'money clip' because his job wasn't just to earn his keep, he wanted to help sick people like every other nurse in the Holby city ED. "I'm pregnant Charlie... And I didn't know what to do until that teenager told me about how he has never had support from anyone! How he knew he could have done something with his life if his mother had cared a little more. I've decided to abort it, as I could never give it what it needs. I know I'm a doctor and I earn enough but the emotional support just isn't there! I could never be a mother!"

"Is Tom the father?"

"Yes," She closed her eyes and wiped away the single tear that begun to roll down her face.

"Does he know?"

"No. And I don't expect him to find out," she said pleadingly.

"Sam, he'd be there for you! You know how much he loves you. Maybe you should discuss it with him,"

She look through the window the staff room and saw Tom smiling at Zoe as she praised him for another correct diagnostic. Sam did love Tom, but they weren't 'together' and she knew they never would be after what she did.

"No. No, he can't know. I have an appointment at the clinic tomorrow. Will you come with me Charlie? Please," He nodded, and embraced Sam as she burst in to tears.

At that very moment, Tom walked in. "Everything okay Charlie?" Charlie nodded but then Tom saw Sam, and his interest in the situation had gone. "Oh. It's s her" Tom left the staff room and Sam cried more and more, knowing he might still love her, but he'd never care for her.
