It was one of those nights, the ones where they were so short on cash they couldn't afford a room, one of those nights they slept in the Impala while the rain pattered on the roof, Sam in the back seat, Dean slumped across the front, and Cas somehow squeezing in on the floor. On other nights though, the ones where the moist breeze swept in from the coast, when the stars glowed bright and you could hear the sounds of every creature moving through the dark. On those nights, they would park the Impala on a side road, away from any towns. Sleep outside, underneath those glittering stars, the ones they usually were too distracted to see

"Hey Cas" Dean said, sitting down next to the angel on the grassy mound. They sat in silence for a bit, heads turned upwards. "Wish I could see them. Up close, I mean." Dean said. It was quiet for a minute before Cas replied.

"I actually have. They're not as great as you would expect, they're far more spectacular here"

"Nice when you can see the constellations and all that. Especially when you're not being chased by a demon" Dean chuckled, with no reply. "Yeah" he said to the stillness.

Suddenly, Dean heard a ruffle and felt something warm and soft wrap around him. He turned to Cas, who looked down and blushed. "You- you shivered, and I thought this would help" Dean ran his finger down the wing, admiring the raven-black feathers. He scooted closer to Cas, and Cas tightened his wing, encasing them both in a blanket of black feathers. Dean felt Cas grab his hand, and he flinched. He was straight, right? The absolute straightest you could be. There's absolutely nothing between me and Cas, Dean thought, cursing the butterflies forming in his stomach.

There was a deep grunt, and a tired Sam's voice came from below the ridge, "Can you two please just kiss each other already? The tension thing is getting pretty old"

"Go to sleep Sammy" Dean said, his face now red. He rubbed Cas's hand against his, resting his head on the angel's shoulder. Whatever was going to happen sure as hell wasn't going to happen when Sam was still awake to watch and provide commentary. Cas shifted his wings slightly, so that Dean could now feel Cas's steady heartbeat against his own. Well screw being straight, Dean thought as he leaned in, forehead touching the angel's before their lips met. It was a short kiss, nothing too much, but it was still enough to make Dean's stomach turn backflips. They stayed in that position for a while, hands clasped, foreheads pressed together.

"Oh my god, finally" were Sam's last words before falling into a slumber.
