Prier had a lot of things that she wanted to forget about in life. Her parent's deaths, the people who picked on her brother and herself for being orphans, the horrible way Angelique had died, Culotte's grief over Alouette, Croix's pain and the fact that he had to leave her in order to make atonement for his sins. She had vowed to stick by his side no matter what; to love him no matter what. So why couldn't he have just let her protect him?

"He's a man," was her answer, "Men are always doing things that make no sense whatsoever. I don't even want to know what Culotte is going to be like when he grows up."

No matter what, Prier knew in her heart that her love for Croix would never die. And though she was not a visionist by trade, she felt that he would one day return to her. This quest wouldn't kill him; he was strong enough to survive. Eventually, the road would tire him and he would come back to rest in her arms. Then the young Demon Huntress would be able to protect him from all harm.

Suddenly, a small cry lit up the air. Prier turned towards the tiny cradle and picked up the bundle in her arms; her three month old daughter. She brought the tiny baby closer to her body and began to sing an ancient lullaby that Croix had taught her before he left. It was the only key this child had towards her Fatiman heritage until her father could return to raise her.

"Croix…no matter what happens, I know this will all turn out ok in the end. I will work to protect this precious gift that you gave me. And I will make sure that she is not burdened with the sins you are fighting; that she will never know of the Dark Prince's true origins until the day when her father can show her who he really is. This child is my light, my life, and my hope; my Angelique," Prier whispered to the empty room.
