Blood Of The Enemy

"Blood of the enemy, forcibly taken, you will resurrect your foe."

A snivelling voice utters the last charge of the incantation before its owner stoops to slit your arm and draw forth the blood that would complete the ritual rebirth of the Dark Lord. You watch helplessly, bound and gagged as you are, unable to prevent the final crimson ingredient being stolen from your very veins.

A giant cast iron cauldron looms over you. How ironic, that He should be reborn out of a cauldron, a pagan symbol of the darkness and nurture of the womb.

His mother would not have wanted this.

The vial of ruby liquid is emptied, triggering a shower of brilliant white sparks. You watch in horror as His figure, naked and proud rises from the depths like some perverse parody of the Birth of Venus. His gaze meets yours. You want to scream- his eyes are red.

Severus Snape woke from the dream to hear the rhythmic thundering of his own heartbeat in his ears. Disorientated, he managed to stumble to the bathroom before vomiting violently over the quarry stone tiles. He sneered at the degradation of it- he despised mess, and even more so, weakness.

Washing the taste of bile from his mouth, he wondered idly how on earth his subconscious had warped a memory of Potter's from one of their unproductive Occlumancy lessons into a nightmarish vision of- what? The future? His unconscious fear? He wasn't sure which idea unnerved him more.

Returning to his bed, Snape endeavoured to settle once more to sleep but found he was unable to banish from his mind the memory of a pair of red slit eyes, glowing demonically. What were the chances the dream had been a premonition? The rational part of his mind reassured him he was no seer. He should sleep now, forget it.

But those eyes, red instead of emerald green…

What would it take, to reduce Harry Potter, from the boy he was (insufferable but essentially good) to an inhumane, power hungry monster, or merely a vengeful lunatic?

Blood of the enemy, forcibly taken-

They say history repeats itself. And in some ways, Potter and Riddle are so very much alike….

-you will resurrect your foe.
