Neither were that outspoken, both preferring the background to the foreground. He more so interfered while she never learned how to mingle in social settings; years of her childhood spent alone. Still they would smile at each other, exchanged hellos forgetting the silence they both usually so often and easily observed for others.

It took months of simple hellos, how are yous, and other everyday conversation starters which rarely ever started any conversation for her to gain the courage up. With a beating heart and fighting with herself not to avert her eyes from him; she stands by his table as he holds the fork in one hand and the duty rooster in the other.

"Would you like to attend movie night with me? I think it's All Dogs Go To Heaven, a children's movie." She hadn't quite meant to blurt everything out like a rambling moron, but at least it was out. He puts down both objects, looks up and just stares at her.

"Excuse me?" She was prepared for rejection.

"Never mind Lieutenant it was a stupid idea. I'll let you get back to your lunch."

He just sits there, still staring at where she had been standing moments before. The entire situation was some what sireel leaving his head spinning. Was his reaction rude? The way she practicality flew off as if by magic she had spurted wings left him thinking perhaps so. It was just he wasn't excepting anybody let alone being such a strange question. He wonders since when being asked to movie night was a strange question? But he knew for him it was.

The movie with her? Together? As a date complete with him picking her up at her quarters and walking her back? That sort of date? Or just as two friends who happen to sit side by side? With a smile he realizes both would be nice. He searches the mess hall, in hopes she's still there. Not surprised to find no sign of her.

"Hoshi!" She stops and turns, as Ensign Miller in a hectic rush almost runs right into her. She mutters an apology that was never heard as the Ensign kept the same pace. "Are you alright?" With a smile and nod she gives the Lieutenant his answer.

"What is it? I promised the Captain I'd help him with the map for the land images we picked up a few hours ago." She doesn't mean to sound rude, just earlier in the mess hall had caused enough embarrassment, she didn't want more.

"Yes."

"Yes what?"

"Yes I'd like to attend movie night with you. Is alright if I pick you up at 6:30?" She just stares at him, barely accepting the words he was telling her.

"But the movie starts at 7:15?"

"I know I thought we could have a snack or something before hand, ok?"

"Sounds fine." He smiles, which she found extremely flattering before continue down the corridor. It takes all her effort not to giggle like a teenager.
