"Finn? Hello?" Kurt waved his hand in front of the jock's face. Finn jumped, and apologized, "Sorry, Kurt. Zoned out there for a sec. What were you saying?" Kurt sighed. Keeping that boy's attention was just as hard as getting him to get over Quinn. Good thing he'd succeeded there too! "Focus, Finn. We've got a new theme for Regionals: light and dark. Mr. Schue asked us to come up with some song ideas so he can start arranging them. We have light. What are songs that talk about light?"
Finn got that look on his face when he was trying to think really hard. "Well the girls' mash-up they did with Halo and Walking on Sunshine would be good, right?" Kurt smiled. Finally, some progress out of him. He may be cute, but he certainly isn't the sharpest eye pencil in the set. "OK, got anything else?" There goes that face again. "What about 'Light On' by David Cook?" Kurt was almost taken aback. Finn had really thought about it. "What about you, Kurt? Any show tunes come to mind?"
And what does he mean by that? Kurt didn't know how to feel about Finn's question. Does he mean to say that all I'm good for musically is knowing Broadway shows? Because that's entirely incorrect. Or did he mean that's what I'm best at? Because that's close to the truth, and it shows a knowledge of my taste in music! Finn had a questioning look on his face, and Kurt quickly snapped out of his thoughts. "Sorry, I zoned out for a minute too there. We could do 'Light' from Next to Normal if we could get the rights. It is still on Broadway though…" Finn's face lit up. "And we could do Guiding Light by Muse! I love them!"
After an hour, the boys had an entire setlist worth of ideas of songs about light. They started down the hall from the library to the choir room, and Finn looked over at Kurt. "Race you there?" he asked. Kurt saw the way Finn's face lit up with boyish glee and smiled. "What happens if I win?" he asked amusedly. "Yeah, right!" came the laughing reply. Kurt shrugged and yelled, "LAST ONE THERE'S A ROTTEN EGG!!" as he started sprinting down the hall. Finn yelled, "Hey, that's not fair!" but sprinted after him just the same.
Kurt was almost there; he could see the door to the choir room. He could hear Finn panting a few feet behind him, and he looked back. Shoot, he's gaining. He turned around to see Mr. Schue coming out of the choir room only a few feet away. "Mr. Schuuuuuuuuuuue!" Kurt shrieked. The teacher looked up from the other lists in his hand just in time to see Kurt before they collided. Finn was laughing so hard he fell to the ground on top of the other two men. "I win!" Kurt said with a triumphant smile. The laughter abruptly stopped. Finn did not like losing. "So what's my prize?" Kurt asked with just a hint of insinuation. Finn's smile returned saying, "Oh, I've got something in mind."
Remembering Mr. Schue was present, he didn't continue, but instead stood up and helped Kurt off their teacher. "Here you go, Mr. Schue." Finn said as he handed over the list. "Wow, guys, this is great! How did you come up with so many songs?" Kurt shrugged and said, "We just started at the beginning and when we came to the end, we stopped. Simple as that." He slanted a knowing glance at Finn; they were anything but simple. Mr. Schue smiled and thanked the unlikely duo as they walked off, pausing to intertwine fingers once Mr. Schue had gone back into the choir room.
