River sees the look of surprise The Doctor gives her and her silly hat and her smile drops just a bit as she remembers just how different this regeneration is. He would of been talking excitedly about her silly hat, but instead,
"River what the hell do you have on your end"
River sighs in response, she loves this doctor just as much but she misses how childlike he used to be, he's more dark then she's come to know.
"It's a hat, sweetie. You're wearing one too."
The doctor becomes defencive.
"Yes. But its a christmas hat, and it is christmas, so it is justified"
When the doctor becomes defencive like this it's really the only time she sees his previous personality trying to slip through.
"Well this is an Elves hat, so it too is justified"
I finish the mockery with a wink.
"Oh, a Elf hat. Are you santa's little helper then?"
I let out a throaty laugh.
"I can be if you want me to"
I walk closer to him and reposition his Hat, and then he pulls me in close, and I hum yes this doctor is different but I feel protected around him and its something I like from time to time.
