Last Forest-Deathlands

..............................

The forests below me are cold enough
Dark, dead, empty enough.
Harsh calls from ravens,
Chill to the bone the wind itself.
Silence reigns like an ice-crowned queen,
Upon her thorny throne.

Over the hill comes the soldiers
The mobile infantry.
Riding south, north, east
To the rivers of old
To the cities of command
Reaching for miles
Power, hunger, pain...
Gripping the lands held fast.

I disagree
But so far
Nobody has come
To ask me.

Fellow wolves are frozen,
in the blackened hills.
The Ice Queen sings,
Ravens stay still.

The Old Woman watches
Waits.
Under the cover
Of a cloak so blue

We are all waiting...
Waiting for the night of the red moon...
