Hello there. This is a response to a challenge in Berrie Salamander's Digimon Challenge Forum to the prompt 'What's so great about you?' with the pairing Tai/Matt.
Love can be so mysterious at times and come to us in the strangest of times and places. This was the case of the current relationship between Taichi Yagami and Yamato Ishida famous rockstar and lead singer of the Teenage Wolves. They were quite steady in their relationship and one day Taichi went to visit Yamato after his band practice. The two sat outside, Yamato cuddled up to his boyfriend and Taichi wrapped an arm around him.
"Taichi-kun?" Yamato called out and Taichi looked down at him.
"What is it Yama?" Taichi said leaning over and planting a soft kiss on the other's lips causing the blond to smile and return the kiss, before sitting up.
"Taichi-kun, can I ask a question? I was thinking...out of all people why you chose me? I mean, even in our first adventure I always screwed things up for you. I fought you so much, heck I even made our digimon fight each other. If the rest of us hadn't gotten there in time with Piedmon, you could have..." Yamato shuddered at the thought then trailed off. Taichi frowned before reaching over and pulling Yamato into his arms and holding him close for a moment before letting him go and then punching him in the face.
"Cut that out, Yama-kun! Cherrymon brainwashed you when we fought, I've never held that against you. And you were feeling insecure Yama-kun, you didn't want to end up alone, you were scared of losing Takeru. I love you Yama-kun. And you're asking 'what's so great about you?' how can you even ask that question? When I was scared, you would be there right besides me like the time Takeru and Hikari had to get Angemon and Angewomon to shoot their arrows of hope and light at us, I was really scared even though I wouldn't admit it but when you took my hand I just knew somehow everything was going to be all right just because you were there besides me. Honestly, even when you were away from the group, I thought about you and how you would respond to situations and the fact that I had to make sure Takeru didn't get hurt with anything. I love you Yama-kun." Taichi said holding Yamato's hand and looking into his eyes, sincerity shining in his eyes so much that Yamato was both touched and slightly taken aback at how deeply Taichi felt about him.
"I don't care what the rest of the world thinks, if they think they know you, I know the real you I've seen you at your best but also at your worst. I'll always love you Yama-kun you're my whole life." Taichi continued. Yamato felt tears come to his eyes, he felt like one of the luckiest people in the world he was so blessed to have someone like Taichi as his boyfriend. He leaned close, pressing his lips against Taichi's not able to find the words to describe how much Taichi meant to him and how much those words reassured him, he always had doubts on whether he was good enough for Taichi or not, but the other always knew how to snap him out of that state.
