So, once again, my plot bunnies got away from me. This time, the story was inspired by #50 of the 50 Themes: Alpha. And yes, there is no real mention of a supernova; it's so metaphorical, I should've changed the title, but I think it fits nonetheless.

Supernova

~ green & silver: power/Slytherin had always been his favorite house, after all/so why is Harry Potter the one with green eyes? ~

And there is chaos…

In his final moments, there are two shades of green he sees. One is the green of the curse; it is neon, effervescent, beloved and now hated and it is speeding towards him, blurred, blindly, unstoppable, a falling star.

But the other green is there, barely visible; it is in the iris of his opponent's eye; glinting behind grimy glasses.

A memory claims his thoughts:

"Stand aside!" "Please, have mercy!"

Those green eyes, terrified, had been pathetic in their pleading. But there is a different look now, a determined one, with relief seeping in, foreshadowing to it's all over, I've won.

One day, though, they will realize they had needed him, that he had simply been ahead of his time in thinking, and it will be the memory of Harry Potter that is ostracized. The image of Lord Voldemort will live on, reverently, in the minds of those worthy (or at least it would, if his followers, defeaters and eaters of death, were not frozen, dead, gone).

Those eyes, sure to be once again copied, on and on, in an endless string, to other faces, will plead again, will once more be worthless, and easily cast aside.

His last thought, as he falls, eyes open but vision black, is that he at least was not defeated by his enemy, that his opponent did not triumph.

He is satisfied that he is his own downfall.

This is only slightly better than nothing, but at least he won't have to live with it.

And there is no rest for the wicked…

~ but he is wrong: he must live with the nothing, the shame, forever, endlessly, mercilessly as the pointed end of a wand/he is wrong: the green eyes were his downfall ~
