Alexander Anderson's shoulders tensed before he turned around, but he looked reasonably calm by the time he faced Integral Hellsing's vampiric butler, Walter Dornez. He was still learning to restrain the fury he felt around vampires, but Integral had made it clear in no uncertain terms that she'd see him staked out by his intestines if he did anything to any of her vampires.
Which is why a paladin of the faith faced an unholy creature and only forced out the words, "If ye must."
Walter inclined his head in the barest of bows and held an arm out toward the kitchen. Anderson briefly wondered if that was some sort of comment on the fact that the priest spent a good deal of time there. It took a lot of food to fuel a metabolism as unnaturally fast as the regenerator's.
A variety of foods were sitting on the butcher block in the middle of the room, among them were a large roast, a wheel of cheese and a fresh loaf of bread. Walter motioned toward a stool sitting next to the block and Anderson took the invitation to sit down.
Walter picked up the loaf of bread and turned it over in his hands appreciatively before putting it down and almost casually waving his hand at it. Anderson watched with some interest as the loaf separated into neat slices and Walter put two on a plate.
"Mustard?"
Anderson blinked at the question then shook his head. "What was it ye needed?"
"In a moment, Father Anderson." Walter turned to the roast and glanced up and the priest. "I forget, do you prefer your meat more rare or more cooked?"
"Rare, please." He shifted uncomfortably on the small stool and watched as again, Walter waved a hand and the roast slid into neat slices. He kept his face mostly neutral when he saw Walter remove the cleanly sliced piece of bone from the middle of a piece of meat and set it aside before putting the meat on the bread.
"Since you have been here at Hellsing, you've clearly been trying to get along with Miss Victoria and with me," Walter said as he laid out a hunk of cheese. He performed his magic that turned it into neat slices, which went onto the developing sandwich and glanced up at the watching priest.
Anderson wasn't sure what the butler was getting at, so he remained silent and only nodded.
"I believe I can speak for Miss Victoria when I thank you on both of our behalves." Now the vampire laid out a head of lettuce, a tomato, and an onion. Another casual wave of his fingers and he laid thin slices of tomato and onion on the sandwich and topped it with shredded lettuce. He closed up the sandwich and handed the plate to Anderson, who had been watching with fascination from start to finish.
Later, reflecting back on that moment, Anderson was almost sure that the butler had been trying to kill him in some understated British way. At Walter's encouragement, he took a large bite of what was a very good sandwich. He was chewing his way through that first bite when Walter finally got to the point of this display.
"I must ask you what your intentions are with regards to Sir Integral."
When Anderson began to choke and cough, he was certain that he had seen the corners of Walter's mouth turn up just slightly.
