Here it was, the Day of Black Sun and the invasion. The solar eclipse was to render the fire-benders powerless. It was the day that the 100 year war would stop. Why is it that things never go as planned?
First of all, Hakoda was injured in an attack. His children's attack was successful. Katara had healed his major injuries, but he wasn't at 100%. His boy, Sokka, took over leading the invasion. Everything was going smoothly until he was hit by a burning arrow in the neck.
"Sokka!" he heard his daughter scream, then the person steadying him, dropped him as she ran to her brother. She was crying as she took out her water to try and heal him. The little blind girl and boy avatar were holding each other. The boy couldn't look away from the scene and the girl didn't know where to look.
Toph started crying, "I can't feel his heartbeat!"
Katara was still trying to heal him, but started crying that he was gone.
"NO!" Hakoda screamed as he tried to run to his eldest. It was his worst nightmare, even worse than his wife dying for their daughter.
His path was blocked by a strange man. "Chief Hakoda of the Water Tribe?"
"Yes, look my son's been injured. I need to go to him." He tried to pass, but the man wouldn't let him.
"Yes, it doesn't look good for your boy; but I know of a way to save him." The man replied.
Hakoda paused, " I don't understand."
"Let's make a deal. We're both men of our word. I'll help Sokka out and in ten years I'll come to collect my debt."
"What would that be?" asked a suspicious Hakoda.
"Your soul," the man replied, a yellowish tinge burning from behind his eyes.
"What?"
"Oh, you can't expect something for nothing. Now what do you say? It is for your boy."
Hakoda looked at his dead son and sobbing daughter. "Ok"
"It's a deal/" The man said then vanished.
"Sokka!" he heard the blind girl scream, and his daughter had the look of absolute elation on his face. Sokka woke up groggy and confused, but alive and whole! Hakoda knew he made the right choice.
