My Saving Grace

Count the seconds till I fade away

Another end to a summer's day.

Just how long till winter comes?

The snarls, the yelps, the beating drums?

Watch the clock, the moments fall.

Wait and wait for the howling call.

Shed my skin, shrug the shrouding fur.

Keep the eyes that cry for summer.

Watch the winter, the snow and the frost.

Howl, helpless, as I am lost.

Crouch in the darkness, wait for a sign.

Smile at the human who is always mine.

I remember no name, see just her face,

And think of salvation. She's my saving grace.
