"Crying again." Monica said sleepily, pushing Chandler towards the edge of the bed, "Go deal with it please honey." Rolling over she yanked his pillow out from underneath him and placed it over her head. Sitting on the side of the bed Chandler yawned and stretched, silently listening to the baby monitor before he stood up. Erica was crying again he thought as a smile formed on his face. He grabbed the baby monitor as he stood up and made his way to the twins room, quietly shutting the door behind him. He never thought that he would be a good father, he knew that he would try but he wasn't a natural like Monica was, she was already a mother, but now he was a father. It gave him an odd sense of pride being able to distinguish the twins cries from one another. He chuckled as Jack started wailing alongside his sister, regardless of who started first they would both be crying in unison in a matter of minutes.
Switching the light on as he entered the room, he shut the door behind him, hoping to block all the sound from the twins bedroom to the room where Monica lay sleeping. It was his turn to do the night shift and she was always grumpy when she had work early in the morning, even more so when she was kept up all night due to the wailing. They loved the twins all day but at night when they were tired and trying to sleep, they were less than sympathetic to their plight. Placing the baby monitor on the corner of the changing table he picked Jack up first, and put him in the baby bouncer, strapping him in correctly and letting him play with the cars and planes that now hung around him. A smile crossed his tiny face and his eyes lit up, he was easily amused and stopped crying immediately, to begin making a very adorable gurgling sound.
Turning his attention to Erica he leant over his crib and picked her up in his arms, "Whats wrong? Are you hungry?" he spoke in a baby voice, that a few years ago would have caused him to laugh in disgust, but now was second nature when looking at her adorable squishing smiling face. Bouncing her slightly in his arms he walked towards the table and grabbed the bottle, "I can warm it up if you want more." Letting the bottle hover over her mouth for a few seconds he waited. Usually she would open her mouth slightly, showing she was hungry but she turned her head ever so slightly, trying to indicate she wasn't. Chandler put the bottle down, held her up and sniffed her, "Ok then, well you don't smell. Were you just lonely?"
Standing still he rocked her slightly for two minutes before placing her back in her crib. He let Jack out of the bouncer and put him back in his crib as well. He draped a blanket over each of them, pink for Erica and blue for Jack. Satisfied with his work but craving his bed he turned to leave; picking up the baby monitor on his way out. As his hand stretched out to grab the door handle, a high pitched wail pierced his ears. Behind him Erica had started crying. He sighed put down the baby monitor and walked over to pick her up.
"Fussy baby tonight are we?" Sitting down in the rocking chair, he swayed forward and backwards, thinking for about the millionth time how lucky he was that he didn't get sea sick. After a few minutes Erica stopped crying, stretched her arms out in front of her, and shut her eyes. Chandler placed a pacifier into her mouth and leant back into the chair, his eyes flitted for a moment, then shut completely.
