Prologue

The Lady Galadriel sat staring sadly at her mirror. For all her years she had known how to interpret the images she saw in it this one event she did not think she would see. A single tear made its way down her cheek as she recalled what she had seen.

Flashback

As Galadriel stared into the mirror she started to see the images she knew were from the near future. Images of her daughter Celebrian came flashing through her mind, her face first happy, then contorted in fear and then eventually excruciating pain. The final image was of her daughter and King Thranduil's wife Lady Fëawen sailing off to Valinor on a fine large white ship never to be seen on Arda again.

End flashback

She had known at that moment that there was only one way to save them, she had seen it many years ago when she was young, one whose family had been lost to the enemy would save them but would pay for it with her life. The only problem was the one this vision referred to was one of her finest students in the magical ways and was also very close friends to the mach warden Haldir and his brothers Orophin and Rumil.

They had found the girl when she was only an infant and brought her up as their sister. She was barely alive at the edge of Lothlόrien when they had been out on patrol with the bodies of her murdered parents lying nearby. They had named her Itarildё Tinehtelё.

After 2000 years she had grown into a fine elleth. She had a lively spirit, quick wit and the most peaceful soul anyone had ever seen. To top off the list of all her perfections she was also very beautiful with long black hair, sparkling dark brown eyes and lush red lips that were always turned up in a friendly smile.

As Galadriel thought of this another tear escaped from her eyes. It was time for Itarildё to for fill this part of her destiny. Her years of training from her adopted brothers will be put to the test she was the only one who could save them. As much as she hated to admit it the one person on the earth that could change this dreadful fate was the one person who would be missed the most.

This was how her husband Lord Celeborn found her later in the day, staring wistfully at the mirror with tears cascading down her cheeks. In all his years he had never seen his wife affected so badly by one of her visions. The last time she had reacted like this was when the one ring had been created and she saw the downfall of Middle Earth.

He quietly approached her wanting to know what was going to happen and needing to be there to comfort her. As he approached a senses of foreboding overtook him as he saw for the first time in many years real sorrow in his wife's eyes and instantly know that whatever it was, it involved death. As usual, she knew he was there, she slowly turned to him rested her head on his shoulder and whispered "It is time". As soon as this was out she dissolved into tears burying her head in his shoulder looking for the comfort she usually found there. It was there, like always.

Even though his wife's message had been cryptic he known instantly what she was talking about. He remembered the day when she had woken up beside him and told him about this vision she had had about the young elleth that Haldir had found in the woods. Know he knew why she was so upset. Young Itarildё was like an adopted daughter to them she had been there for them all the time to light up their lives with happiness that you only found once in your life and it seemed that now it was time for her to leave them for good.
