"Oh youth, guided by the goddess," A golden haired princess sand, her sapphire eyes closed. Her long, thin fingers deftly strummed the strings of her harp, producing beautiful music that made even the loftwings pause to listen. Her slender, short figure was clad in the customary brilliant pink dress that no one had ever seen her in before.

A crimson haired teenager watched her as she poured her heart into the song. An unknowing blush crept into his cheeks as he watched. As the sun took her place in the great blue sky, a ray of sunlight pierced through the clouds and reflected off her hair. He gasped at her beauty, lost for words. Eventually the last note faded into nothing and she slowly opened her eyes. Groose started to open his mouth to greet her but he was interrupted.

"Hiya Groose." She had not even had to turn around to recognize his presence.

"Uhhhhhhhh - "

"Are you done stalking me?" She gently teased, a smile creeping onto her lips. A single dimple that he had never noticed touched her cheek.

"I wasn't stalking you," Groose said indignantly, rising from behind a boulder.

"Says the guy hiding behind a rock," Zelda stated, her grin morphing into a mischievous smirk. He walked a couple of steps closer to her.

"Are you worried about today?" He asked. He intently gazed into her eyes, trying to read her emotions.

"Of course not!" She responded confidently. She may have been presenting a strong façade, but Groose sensed a shadow of doubt behind her words Apparently her loftwing sensed a disturbance too, because it landed next to her. As he watched her, he felt a strong wave of gentleness wash over him.

"Zelda – I - "

"Yeah?"

"Never mind." He said quickly, suddenly unable to meet her gaze. She intently looked at him as if deciding whether or not to pursue it. "Good luck today."

"Thanks, Groose. Fly your best today." She stated quietly, extending a hand touch his shoulder.

"I will." He gazed down into the eyes of the pure maiden that had stolen his heart with a burning desire to please her. With that, he spun around and ran off the cliff to summon his loftwing. As his loftwing soared through the sky, he glanced down to see his greatest rival sprinting towards her and the stop, just like he had, to listen to her song.

"LINK!" The same girl bellowed, spiraling towards the Earth. Her once spotless white gown was now muddy and ripped. When her hopeless eyes met his, that day in the summer breeze was suddenly remembered. An overwhelming feeling overcame Groose, far greater than his own desire for self-preservation and the burning jealousy of her attachment to Link, her chosen hero. When she fell safely into his arms, he let out a deep sigh of relief. The golden-haired angel was safe. He removed his gaze from her to look up at Link.

"She's safe." He mouthed. Link's face visibly relaxed and he gave him a grateful look.

"Thank you." Link mouthed back. Groose simply nodded in response. It did not matter what he did. In the end, Link would always be the hero in her eyes. It was he that wielded the great sword. He was the one that brought a smile to her lips.

"Groose," she murmured under her breath, her eyes fluttering open.

"Yes?"

"I – I'm sorry."

"It's okay, Zelda. I understand.

Phew! Another oneshot done. Now this story wrote itself. The image of Zelda singing and playing her harp in the summer air has always stuck in my mind. Then Groose strutted on by and I had a plot. It's weird . . . I wanted to have a romance between Groose and Zelda, but when it came down to it,, it didn't feel right. Unfailing devoted one-sided love fits that couple more.

Side note . . . I will be posting a lot of old stories today. I write better now, but I figured you guys would enjoy this.
