A/N I'm back! ~~ I'm sorry I disappeared for a long while and discontinued my other stories... But I recently read Shadow and Bone (Grisha Trilogy) and holy crap! It immediately inspired me to write again ^^ So I hope you like this new story!
Prologue
"Scarlett! Come down!" her mother called out.
Scarlett quickly placed her hands down from reading and rushed down to the living room. "Yes Mother?" she asked, coming to a halt at the bottom of the stairs.
In the room there were two Grisha, ready for her. "The Grisha are here to test you," her mother said, before moving out of the room to leave them alone.
6 year old Scarlett watched the two Grisha carefully. One was clad in red, the other in blue. A Heartrender and Summoner.
"Come child," the blue clad Grisha said, beckoning Scarlett over.
She moved warily, taking the woman's hand. All of a sudden, everything went black and there was a tugging in her midsection and she felt the shadows writhe around her. She watched in fascination as one formed a dog and she petted it. A few seconds later, the blackness disappeared and the shadows stilled.
The blue-clad Grisha turned to the other. "She's not Grisha.."
Scarlett was confused. She knew she had a power, but it wasn't Grisha? If she wasn't Grisha, then what was she?..
10 years later::
"Scarlett!" her mother yelled frantically.
Scarlett let her hands fall, the shadows dissipating from the shapes they were in as she dashed downstairs.
"Mom! What's wrong…?" Scarlett asked, her voice trailing away as she saw her mother in a chair and soldiers from the Second Army in her living room.
"Th-they're—"
"Ma'am, we'll tell her," the officer who seemed to be in charge interrupted her.
Scarlett stiffened as he continued. "We are looking for recruits. Long story short, you're coming with us."
"I don't want to be in the army," Scarlett snapped out.
"Too bad, you don't have a choice. You could come with us, or something could accidentally happen to this home. With your mother inside," the same man said.
Scarlett's eyes narrowed. "Are you threatening my me and my mother?"
He shrugged. "It depends on how you interpret that."
"Scarlett…" her mother said.
"No, it's okay Mom," she said, gritting her teeth. "I'll go join their stupid army."
They gave her 15 minutes to pack one bag she could take with her and Scarlett rushed upstairs to pack. She threw in two spare changes of clothes, some necessities, some valuables, and finally… the necklace she had received 10 years ago. She felt the shadows shifting and she turned to find the dog, no it was more like a wolf, walk out. "You'll come with me right?" she asked the wolf.
It nodded once before dissipating and Scarlett walked out the door to her new life.
