"Turn off that TV and go to bed boy," Granddad yelled from the kitchen and his midnight Luther. "You know what's gon' happen. It happens every four years and you should know by now."

"They just pick anotha old dumbass white man." Riley agreed from the other side of the couch. The 8-year-old looked exhausted from watching the election go by and not seeing one ass shake. Huey had insisted on domination over the TV to watch CNN for coverage over the election. They were all interested, but he had a pretty good guess that they'd change the channel to Vh1 or BET to see who got eliminated Real Chance of Love or the next Lil Wayne video.

"And the polls are coming in… Obama 214 McCain 123," the announcer stated.

Huey's eyes were fixed on the TV waiting for every states results since he got home from school not moving from his spot on the couch. It was 11:00 and that was 8 hours ago with no food or water in the process. It was all worth it though…if he won.

"I don't know bout y'all, but I'm getting tired of this shit. I'm goin' a be-AHH! You ain't got to get all violent wit nobody Granddad!" Riley exclaimed rubbing his abused scalp.

"Shut the hell up and bring me my shoe! I told you bout that cussin'," Granddad shot back at the future delinquent. "Huey don't stay up to late."

"Mmhumm," the revolutionist mumbled under his breath.

It's hard these days, trying to be able to believe in something, especially life around you is one big exploitation fest. It just seems like everyone around you doesn't even realize the real gravity of what's going on around them until it that bubble of ignorance crashes around them and crushes them.

And it's not as if that bubble starts out of the blue, it starts at birth. From the moment they're told nothing's ever going to hurt 'em, that they'll be there forever, to the tooth fairy, Santa Clause, and that damned Easter Bunny.

That mommy and daddy'll be back.

All lies.

When you've been lied too and your bubble's been busted, you believe that anything else will bring the same pain.

You detach yourself from any thought of believing in anything, especially the unattainable.

Black presidents and…parents who live forever are unattainable.

But the former can still be watched.

After all, I wasn't alive when Jesse Jackson ran for president.

"And all Obama needs is California to win."

Huey was shaken out of his thoughts in realization for the first time in months… he could win.

Obama…

Wait, that can't be right. H-he's black. Could those crackers actually be giving the world some justice? Maybe I don't have to organize a revolution after all.

Obama…

"He just won New York."

Obama…

"I do believe it's all over now…."

OBAMA…

"The results are in"

OBAMA…

"America, Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States of America…."

Huey blacked out.

And came back.

And blacked out again.

And came black.

What the hell just happened?

He switched the channel to MSNBC 'Barack Obama, new president'. Then he changed it to FOX 'McCain loses'. Then Comedy Central 'Alright OBAMAAAAA!!!!' Then back to CNN 'We are out here in Washington with the crowd that just heard the news about Obama's victory'.

He…

He won.

His brown eyes lowered for the first time in 8 hours, to his knees. He brought his knees up to his forehead. Then, the unbreakable Huey who didn't believe in dreams, wept.

For Obama.

For his people.

For the world.

For himself.

For his fallen dreams.

For his new ones.

Maybe believing in something isn't so bad after all.

"Thank-you God."
