A/N: Yay! New story! I got this idea while doing homework and decided not to do it for a while, but I couldn't help it! I think you all will like this story a lot! Or maybe you won't. But here it is: Chapter 1; Hocus Pocus.
-Peeta's POV-
"Hocus pocus!" I say and pull away the fabric.
The crowd 'Oohs' and 'Ahhs' with amazement. Little kids are pointing their fingers at me, probably asking their parents how I did it. One makes me laugh when he tells his mom that I "killed the bunny". His dad shakes his head and tells him that I made it disappear and that I didn't kill it. Good, no need for a bad reputation. I think.
My name is Peeta Mellark, beter known as Magic Mellark. I know, so original, right? Anyway, I've been a professional magician for about, eh, 12 years, give or take. I've been traveling the world, though, for about 5 years, My beautiful assistant (also my wife), Katniss Mellark, has been travelind with me for only 3 years, because I had had another assistant before her, and once she quit, I needed a new one. At first, Katniss was appaled at the idea of traveling 10 months out of the year to "perform for stupid little toddlers, that don't even know they're ABCs". Almost three weeks after that she agreed.
"Now, for my next trick, I'll need a volunteer," Immediately, hands shoot up in the air and kids are calling 'Pick me! Pick me!'. "And my lovely assistant." Katniss walks out from behind the red curtain and comes up to me, linking our arms together.
"Hello, handsome." She whispers in my ear.
"Ah. Ah. Ah, Kitty. No flirting during the show." I say and she rolls her eyes. "Now, go pick the volunteer."
"Fine." She sighs, walking down the stage steps and looks out at the audience. When they figure out that she's picking the volunteer, they all turn to face her. She walks up to a small boy who can't be older than six or seven. He takes her hand and they walk back to the stage.
"Hello," I say to him when he's standing in front of me. "What's your name?"
"S-Samuel." He stammers.
"Well, Samuel. Are you ready to help?" He nods his head. "Okay, now. You'll come and stand over here." I say and lead him over to small table off to the side of the stage.
"What am I supposed to do?" He asks.
"You," I say, picking up a deck of cards and spread them out in front of me. "are going to pick a card, and I will try to guess, correctly, what it is you chose. Now pick a card, any card." He automatically chooses the last card, like almost everyone else. "Okay, now, don't let me see it... was it this?" I ask and show him an ace of spades. He nods, hands me the card back, and runs back to where his parents are sitting.
"And now, for the grand finale," I announce loudly, "I will make Katniss disappear!" I lead her over to a large box in the center of the stage.
Little do I know that after Katniss steps in that box, I may never see her again.
