"What's that?" Jesse questioned as Joey unfurled a small slip of paper from his sandwich's plastic wrapping.

"Ham and cheese," Joey responded absently.

"Not the sandwich," Jesse countered. "The paper."

"Nothing." Joey began to grin as he read the cursive handwriting.

"That isn't the look of nothing," Jesse teased. "That's the look of something." He grabbed the note.

"Jesse, let go! That's mine!" Joey commanded. Jesse kept the note and was surprised to see the look of horror falling upon his face.

"It's okay," he assured. Then, looking at the note, he read aloud, "Be your sweet self today, and think of me often. I'll be thinking of you. I love you!" The note was sealed with a few x's and o's but no other signature. Jesse didn't need a name on it to know who the anonymous writer was. Grinning, he crooned, "That's cute!" He'd known Danny tended to include notes with his daughters' lunches but had no idea he did the same for Joey.

"That's mine," Joey said again, pouting.

"Here," Jesse offered, handing him the note which Joey quickly snatched out of his hand. His face was a dark maroon, and Jesse found himself silently admitting that Joey was sort of cute in a childish way when he blushed and was so easily embarrassed. He'd never see what Danny saw in him, but he didn't have to understand their attraction. They were in love, and they were good for each other. That was all that mattered.

"You don't have to be afraid," he commented, glancing up at the air sign. "I already knew, you know, that you two are together."

Joey's mouth dropped open; his eyes bugged. "You did?"

"Of course," he said, grinning, "you are pretty obvious about it. It's fine as long as you keep each other happy and the girls don't find out. I don't think they're ready to know about that sort of thing. And I'm on in one . . . two . . . three . . . " He slid back into his seat, grabbed the microphone, and started talking, well aware that Joey's eyes were still boring holes into his back.

He took their listeners smoothly into a song, and then turned to look back at his friend. "It's okay," he reassured him again. "You're family. I don't care what you do as long as you don't get hurt and stay happy." It was Jesse's turn to be taken by shock as Joey crossed over the studio to him and wrapped him tightly inside one of the biggest hug evers.

Jesse hesitated only a moment; then he returned the hug. He had known about Danny and Joey for a while and had known, too, that they'd kept their relationship secret out of fear not only over how it would affect the girls but also that he wouldn't understand. Danny had loved his sister, after all, but Jesse knew that, just like himself, his sister would want them to be happy. His family was happy, and that really was all that mattered.
