Ugly. Stupid. Worthless. Fat.
Those words kept repeating in Mary's mind. She sobbed and stuck her finger in her mouth so she could throw up again. She had to do this. She had to. If she threw up; if she lost a few more pounds she'd be pretty.
She would be loved.
The boy from across the street would notice her.
She'd get better grades.
Everything would be better.
They had to be.
But instead of losing weight she gained it. Her teeth became discolored and yucky. But she threw up any way. Just to lose a few more pounds.
"Everything will be better. Just lose a few more pounds." Whispered the goddess Mia. Deceiving Mary with her honey- coated words.
Saying she can eat all she wanted. Just as long as she threw it all back up.
And Mary believed her.
But it was all wrong. Now matter how many times she threw up. She kept getting fatter and uglier.
What was she doing wrong?
Afterword: I am not a fan of the book "Gone". This is a book I would read to kill time, like if I am on a plane or something. Despite that I wrote this, simply because Mary (a minor character) has bulimia a.k.a the goddess Mia. I was pleased that the author (a guy no less) wrote a character like this. Guys that do not suffer from eating disorders tend to not understand those who do; the same kind of applies to myself as well. There is, now that I think about it, a pseudo-religious theme. (In gone Mary is referred as Mother Mary, "Mia" is the sinful snake.)
