It was Friday night, their last night in Mexico and Lou and Jake were sitting at a table drinking ice cold Corona's while they waited for their food to arrive.
It had been a great week; they had been deep sea fishing, hiking and spent some time relaxing on the beach. He was glad that he had reconnected with his son; right now it was the only relationship he had going in his life. He had tried dating his ex-wife again but that only lasted for a few months when they both decided it was best to call it quits.
They started watching a soccer game when their food arrived and hadn't been paying attention to anything going on around them but something caught Lou's attention...a laugh. It wasn't just any laugh, it was her laugh, Catherine's.
He looked over at the bar and saw her, her hair wasn't as red as the last time he saw her but he knew it was her. Jake noticed his dad staring at her and he cleared his throat "I'm gonna take my drink up to the room and see if I can FaceTime with Nikki, you should try to talk to her" he said as he grabbed his drink and headed up to their room.
Lou wasn't sure if he should, things hadn't ended well with them but he paid their bill and picked up his drink as he headed over to the bar. He sat a few chairs away from her and she looked over towards him "Lou" she smiled "what are you doing here"?
"I'm here with Jake, he just headed up to the room. We've been here all week, it's a great resort" he smiled. "Yeah, I just got here" she nodded "I like it so far". Lou smiled as he listened to her and he flagged down the bartender for a round of drinks.
One round turned into 3, they lost track of time as they chatted about everything going on with their lives. It was actually good conversation, neither one of them felt any tension.
It was getting late, the dinner crowd had left and a band was starting to play. She was in a good mood and asked if he wanted to dance. He laughed and tried to say no but she wouldn't let him and she tugged on his hand as she headed to the dance floor.
She was having fun as they danced but he was a wreck; trying to remain calm as her body was against his was almost impossible. She looked up and could tell he was a little stressed. "Lou" she said softly as she gave him a small, soft kiss on the lips "it's just me...you don't have to be so nervous".
