Together, They Were Apart
Together.
No matter what, they were always together. Together after Sirius died, holding each other tight. Together after Dumbledore died, finally sharing the kiss she'd wanted for so long. Together, after Fleur and Bill's wedding, worried sick about Harry, Ron and Hermione – Harry, the only thing that remained of Remus and his best friends.
Apart.
Apart from all the differences, all the prejudices, all the laws that tried to make their relationship a farce, a trick. Apart from all the hatred and her mother's family. Apart from all the fighting. Apart from all the fear, cocooned in each other's arms, having finally married. Apart from all the things that could have ripped them away from each other, at last, when Remus returned for good. Apart from all the hate, they alone proved that all love is possible, if you fight for it.
Together, they were apart from the world they grew up in.
As she looked at the fireplace, where Remus had just disappeared to fight against all that was conspiring to tear them apart and stand by Harry's side, she knew that it would make no sense to be apart at a time like this. Even if it meant being apart from her son, the best parts of both of them, together in human form.
Knowing all of this, it made sense that her last thought, before she fell to the floor, was not how much she hated Bellatrix's laugh or how much she wanted to hold Teddy again, if just for a moment. Instead, she couldn't help but think she really ought to have seen this coming, because there was no way they could be apart, not even by death.
I hope that Teddy understands that, apart from all the hate in the world, it only makes sense we went down together.

None of this belongs to me. I just enjoy dipping my toes in this world, to make up for the fact that I can't be a part of it.
