A/N Albus Severus Potter thinks about his name, and his future at Hogwarts. Did his father want him to be a Slytherin 'cause he sure named him that way. Part of a series of the next-gen's thoughts when they're on their way way to be sorted. Please review. One-shot.

What's in a name?
A definition-yes that's it. A name should define the person it was given to. Like a type of label. What about my name?
Hmmm...let me think, Albus Severus Potter.
"It's a grand name," my father says," a heroic name. A type of name that your not just born into...you grow into it."
Pardon me if I don't quite understand, but what on bloody earth does that mean?
I think it's best if I break down the meaning one part at a time.
Al. What I am called; my preferred nickname.
Afterall it is the most normal, easily defined, uncomplicated, simplisitc, UNALDULTERATED, yes I know what that means, part of my name.
Even my father's friends call me Al, I don't mind. I'm not a thing like Albus Dumbledore...so why call me Albus?
Now what comes after Al...
Bus-well that's unhelpful, I don't like buses.
Okay, Albus.
Like I already pointed out I was named for a strong, powerful, wise, eccentric, tall, kind, mysterious wizard of the Gryffindor house. I CANNOT live up to that, and quite honestly I'm not sure if I want to live up to all of that.
Severus?
Don't you feel sorry for me? Not only is it a horrid name, it is the name of Severus Snape.
Snape- a pathetic, weak, cruel, odd, secretive, traitorous, brave...Slytherin.
Number 1....What?
Number 2...Why dad? Huh? Do you want me to be a Slytherin? Worse even, A.S.P, isn't that a type of snake? Just another reason I should be a Slytherin.
Guess what though, I have the smartest cousin in the world. Wanna' know why?
Because Rose Weasley told me this," A name dosen't define the person, the person defines the names, Al."
I'm not sure what it means, but somehow I feel loads better.
