She said we're much too different
We're from two separate worlds
And he admitted she was partly right
But in his heart's defense he told her
What they had in common
Was strong enough to bond them for life
He said look behind your own soul
And the person that you'll see
Just might remind you of me

"Give me the child," she said stepping forward. He had offered her the world, and she refused. She had destroyed the world he had shaped; destroyed his dreams of life with her. She had said the words that sent them from each other.

I laugh, I love, I hope, I try
I hurt, I need, I fear, I cry
And I know you do the same things, too
So we're really not that different, me and you

They were the same…Why hadn't she seen it? He'd tried to tell her, to show her. She simply wouldn't or couldn't see.

Now she could hardly argue
With his pure and simple logic
But logic never could convince a heart
She had always dreamed of loving someone more exotic
And he just didn't seem to fit the part
So she searched for greener pastures
But never could forget
What he whispered when she left

She went back to her normal life Aboveground. He went back to reshape the land he had created and destroyed by giving her the power. She searched for things to make her happy while he rebuilt the things he once knew. All the while, a voice echoed in her mind; reminding her of the Labyrinth and its owner. She tried to forget. She threw herself into her life, her work, her new friends, and her friendship with Toby. Sometimes Toby reminded her too strongly of Him, and she would have to leave. It seemed the Labyrinth meant more to her than she had known when she had thrown it all away. Perhaps…
I laugh, I love, I hope, I try
I hurt, I need, I fear, I cry
And I know you do the same things, too
So we're really not that different, me and you

Perhaps they were the same, him and her. Perhaps they belonged together. Had she been so blind she hadn't seen?
Was it time or was it truth
Maybe both lead her back to his door
As her tears fell at his feet
She didn't say "I love you"
What she said meant even more

Two long years went by before she could bring herself to go back. A simple wish and once again she stood looking at the castle. The labyrinth wasn't as threatening as it had been. She ran through it her heart pumping. The maze seemed to want her to get through it. It took her hardly an hour. She ran into the throne room and found him lounging in that haughty manner of his on the chair. She tried to speak but couldn't think of what to say. Finally she just spread her hands in defeat. "I lied. You have power over me. Even building a new life I couldn't forget you. I- I wish I had never said those cruel words to you. We are the same…you are no more evil than I am…"
I laugh, I love, I hope, I try
I hurt, I need, I fear, I cry
And I know you do the same things, too
So, we're really not that different,
No, we're really not that different, me and you

The world around them changed into the splendor it was destined to possess. He stood and crossed the distance between them. "Will you stay here with me, Sarah?" She nodded and fell into his embrace. They were the same. And they were in love.
