Short drabble because I was bored and its been awhile. Enjoy :D

Never

She got in her car and drove. Fast and with no destination in mind (well, maybe one). She can briefly hear a car horn honking. So what. Eventually the sight of the sand and water and bikini clad women are being replaced with trees and grass and lumberjack shirts.

She stops the car quickly and with no indication. No-one cares. No-ones about. Except him.

They stare at each other for a few minutes and how much would it take to just drive home? But she doesn't, its been too long, she needs to do this, because what if things could have been different?

She steps out of the car, and rests her hand on the door, for what? Support? Reassurance that she's just a small step away from being able to leave? How many times does she have to tell herself that she's stopped running before it evaporates from the back of her mind every time she's faced with something like this?

He tells her he's been waiting. Expecting her. She smirks, she knew he had. But something in his voice isn't the same. Its harder, there's no banter, none friendly anyway, its like the jokes he used to throw at Jack. They purpose are to provoke, not to make someone smile or laugh. It makes her question herself. Was she right to come here? Has he got to the point of no return?

He doesn't invite her in and she doesn't ask. He tells her she looks good and she bites back on the 'I wish I could say the same' instead she nods and stares up at him. Waiting.

It comes, eventually.

"What are you doing here Kate?" Its not the harshest tone she's heard from him. No way near. He sounds defeated, almost silently begging for her to stop doing this to him. But she has to ask. She has to know.

"….when two people love each other, but just can't seem to get it together, when is enough, enough?" She waits patiently for a smart remark about movie lines and happily ever afters that don't happen outside of the cinema but none come.

"Never"

There is a movie line in there but Sawyer probably hasn't seen the film. The lines pretty obvious, but do you know the movie? Hope you liked it :)
