"Are you ready?" Louis asked as he slammed the car door shut and fastened his seatbelt.
"Not really…" Lizzie sighed softly as she climbed into the passenger seat.
Louis hesitated, before turning to face the girl in front of him. "You know you'll probably never see them again?" He asked, placing his hand out to hers.
"I know, but I have to do this." She murmured, throwing her bag into the back seat.
Louis only shrugged, before turning to face the front and revving up the ignition.
Lizzie leaned out of the window as the wind whipped through her hair, sending it messily in different directions. She knew that she would miss her family, but she had to do this. However, as she slumped against the door frame, the memories that she would rather forget flooded back into her mind.
…
"Mum? Dad? This is Louis. He's my boyfriend." Lizzie smiled, as she dragged the boy with the amazing smile into her living room.
"Boyfriend! Lizzie! We have banned you from having anything of the sort! And now you go and bring this…this boy into our home! Go to your room! NOW!" Her father boomed, as the young Lizzie fled to her bedroom.
…
Louis rolled his eyes. "Close that window, its freezing!" He laughed, sending Lizzie spiralling back to reality.
"W-what?" She gasped, rubbing her eyes.
"I just asked if you could close the window…are you alright?" Louis asked, furrowing his brow.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just remembered the day you met my parents…."
Louis couldn't help but shudder at the memory. Lizzie's parents had scared her so much that she refused to talk to him for months afterwards. And after she had fled to her room that day, he had been grilled about his intentions.
…
"Our Lizzie isn't just some girl who you can take advantage of!" Her mother shouted, backing the young brunet into a corner.
"And we know what you teenage boys are like! You only want one thing!" Her father added.
"So, do you love her? Or are you just going to get rid of her as soon as someone new comes along?"
"N-no, I love her!" Louis spluttered, as he tripped backwards over his own feet.
"I'm afraid I don't believe you young man, now, I am going to ask you to leave, and I don't want you contacting Lizzie ever again!"
…
"I just want to forget about all of it." Louis sighed, rubbing his temples.
"I'm sorry. I knew I shouldn't have brought you home…" Lizzie mumbled, hiding her eyes with her fringe.
"Hey, come here… its fine." Louis smiled, removing one hand from the steering wheel to wrap it around her shoulders. "We're together now and that's all that matters, right?"
"Right…" Lizzie smiled weakly, as she rested her head against the doorframe once again.
Even though she currently felt awful for leaving her family, in time, Lizzie knew that she would be happier because of it. She and Louis were about to start their new lives together, and she couldn't wait.
