This is a little something I owe to BlackScrazy, cause she's just awesome, but still, enjoy!

Disclaimer: I do not own Katniss or Peeta, or Gale. Bah humbug.

Katniss Everdeen stood on the fringes of the crowd. Sparkling chandeliers hung from the domed ceiling, silk and satin brushed the marble floor, bodies swayed and musicians were playing their instruments like there was no tomorrow. It was nice, she supposed, but she couldn't help but think of the people of district twelve, and how their faces would have lit up if they were there, where she was, especially Prim. She tugged at a stray lock of hair that had fallen loose from her lush hairdo.

Instead of blending together with the crowd, she chose to stay out of it, ignoring the curious eyes that laid on her, Effie wouldn't be happy, she figured, but she feared that she would give out some important secrets, especially ones that could be used against her once they were sent back to district twelve. She wasn't afraid, she wasn't weak, Katniss believed that she would keep on standing no matter what the Capitol will heave at her next.

"Katniss," she looked up, at the intricately decorated ivory mask, accented with red and gold, the face looked like that of a wolf, which reminded her a little of the mutts. But behind the holes, she could see a pair of soft blue eyes. "Care for a dance?" The young man held out his hand. Peeta.

Katniss nodded, and she laid her hand on his, though she knew she had never danced in public. She glanced all around her, through the holes of her own mask. More masks, some were intimidating and some looked comical. Soon, she was swept to the middle of the dance floor, Katniss placed her other hand on Peeta's shoulder, he wore an elegant black jacket and matching pants that suited his figure nicely and complimented his best features. He guided Katniss, even if she kept on stepping on her golden silk dress, she was still following the rhythm the other guests.

"You're quite." Peeta pointed out, true enough, she hadn't said a single word.

"I don't have much to say."

"Katniss, just enjoy the moment. I don't think anything could possibly go wrong."

"But-." She was cut off when Peeta held up his arm, forcing Katniss to twirl.

"Waltz, it's a type of dance, really old, but still popular."

"Okay, since you know so much, why don't you teach me?"

"It's simple."

It was not simple, Katniss found it extremely complicated, Peeta seemed to know everything. But even he had trouble keeping her firm, until they bumped into another couple, a dark-haired lady in a violet velvet gown and a man with oiled brown hair. They stopped, Katniss could swear they were staring at her and Peeta, she shot the two of them a dirty look, then pulled Peeta away.

Katniss took off her mask, dropped it, then did the same to Peeta's. She looped her hands around his neck and kissed him. "Let's have some time alone, hmm?"

Before Peeta could answer, he was dragged away by Katniss, and he kept a wide smile on his face.

Well, there it is, your I'm-going-to-agree-with-you-even-ifI-don't-like-it day surprise.
