Run.

Dodge.

Leap.

Slash.

Breath growing shorter.

Keep running, keep slashing.

A searing pain, a numbing blackness.

A cold darkness engulfing all.

A spark of light, a trailing stream of tiny warmth.

Renewed vigor, and restored strength.

A final cut, a scream of death.

"It's just not fair! You risk it all for them, and most of them won't even know!"

Picking up the heart container, Link gave the fairy a wan smile. "No, I guess it isn't fair." He stepped into the blue light, the little creature beside him. As they vanished he said, "It may not fair, but someone has to do it don't they?"

The fairy gave no spoken answer; instead floating down and resolutely landing itself back in the bottle.

AN: IDK where this came from, but it certainly is valid. Link risks everything for a bunch of people who'll probably never know. Maybe a few will remember, but the vast majority of the people of Hyrule and or whatever land Link is helping will never know what he's done. That's a lot of work for someone who will essentially fade into obscurity when the deed is done. I think the phrase"Someone has to do it." really does apply well to him.

Link is killed (and revived) during a boss fight, in case you can't tell.
