The new girl walked into class, carrying her books at her side. She was wearing a white flared top with plain blue jeans. Her brown hair was swept into a ponytail with soft curls falling in her face. Her blue eyes were lined with a gentle like silver. She smiled, and pushed a curl out of her face. She was beautiful.
Once she was introduced to the class, she sat down in the back, near Kate. Kate smiled and said hi. They began to talk, and the teacher stopped them.
"Kate? You know the rules. No talking during class," he said, watching them.
She smiled and pushed back her own curls of hair. "I'm sorry Mr. Dumore, I was just trying to welcome the new girl and I asked her if she wanted me to show her around," she said, recovering quickly.
Mr. Dumore smiled. "Okay then. You may go into the hall for now and work out some details."
Kate smiled and stood up. The new girl followed her lead, smiling brightly as well.
Lizzie watched them leave and made a face. She turned to Miranda. "Can you believe that? Kate gets to leave class early to talk. This is so not fair," she whispered as Mr. Dumore wrote something on the board.
Miranda nodded. "I know. All she does during the day is talk. Why should she get out of class to do it more?"
Gordo sighed and turned around. "All I'm going to say is that you might want to get the notes on the board. And forget about Kate. She's dumb anyway."
Lizzie and Miranda sighed and rolled their eyes at each other. They sat back up in their chairs and continued to write. Meanwhile, Gordo had other thoughts on his mind.
Kate sat down in a chair and crossed her legs as she faced the new girl. "Okay, so while we're eating lunch together, we can go over the rules. Okay?" she asked, examining her nails.
The girl smiled. "Sure. But um, don't you think you need to know my name?"
Kate looked up. She laughed. "Oh, yeah. Right. So um, what is it?"
The girl smiled. "Melissa."
"Okay. Well Melissa, just to forewarn you, Ethan Craft is mine. He's the really cute guy that Lizzie likes too."
Melissa nodded. She didn't want this Ethan guy. She had her eye on someone else anyway.
