"Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous," he whispered, taking a step away from the wall and further into her peripheral. "Your mother would agree."
She just smiled at his reflection in the mirror, and it was the brightest smile he'd seen from her in years. It lit up the whole room. After a few beats of the shared silence she held a hand out for him to take. She tugged him forward to stand next to her after he'd laced their fingers.
"You look so much like her, Katie. I wish she was here to see you."
She slumped against his side and fingered the thin length of chain the ring hung from. "Me too."
