They're all mine – but only in in my most wild dreams.
It's in the future, AU and short.
Author's Note: The last time I wrote anything fannish, there wasn't yet an internet to post it to. So, yeah, it's been a while. Just a little thing that won't leave my head. Because, SERIOUSLY, Steve gave Kono a gun for her graduation. I choose to believe it was so he would always have a hand in protecting her.
Kono looked down at the wooden box in her hands and smiled, remembering the graduation ceremony they had all attended just a couple of hours ago. Her daughter, Rose, had grown up around the 5-0 team, and they were all there to see her graduate from the Academy. They were all of them, now, celebrating the way they most often had over the years – back at the McGarrett place, with Steve manning the grill.
Joining Steve at the grill, Kono caught Danny's eye and gave him a small nod. With a piercing whistle, he quieted the group and directed their attention to Kono.
"Rose, you know how proud of you we all are – and I want to pass something on to you today."
As Rose came to stand in front of her, Kono held out the wooden box.
"Mom, this is your Kel Tec!"
"And now, it's yours, Rosie. This gun has, at one time or another, protected every member of 5-0. Now it's going to protect you."
Steve stepped forward and placed a hand on Rose's shoulder.
"When I gave this to your mom for her Academy graduation, I had some idea in the back of my head that by making sure she had a reliable back-up weapon, I could protect her, even if she was by herself or with Chin or Danny and I wasn't there. When she told me she wanted to pass it on to you...well...I realized nothing has changed over the years. I want to protect you, too – even when I'm not around."
Rose, with tears in her eyes, hugged first Kono, then Steve, whispering in his ear, "Thank you, Dad."
