The Brightest Star
As soon as the stars confirmed the night sky, Mohatu led his daughter outside and lay in the wet turf, rolling contently and swishing his tail from side to side. The young princess Uru did not understand that her father was trying to have fun, but it looked fun so she decided to join him. The brown princess pounced onto his belly, and clawed her way up to his mane. She pulled his ear and panted heavily.
"Are we gonna star-gaze again, dad? Like yesterday?" the young cub inquired as Mohatu placed her between his arms.
"Yes, my princess," the king stated. "Just like yesterday."
"Why didn't mommy come?" the young princess interrogated, staring with keen eyes up to the lion king.
"Because your... your mother is tired, Uru. Don't you think she needs her rest, too?"
"I... I guess." the young princess hesitated. She pushed her small head into Mohatu's brown mane, purring and enjoying the warmth despite the cold, wet grass.
After minutes of talking, Mohatu set the cub on the ground and the two looked up at the stars contently, laughing and pointing to each big star. A shooting star quickly swooped by, and Uru yelped out excitedly.
"Dad! Dad! Did you see that?! It was a shooting star! Make a wish!"
Mohatu tightly shut his eyes, beaming. After a few seconds he opened his amber orbs. "Done it." he cooed, grabbing his daughter and placing her on his belly. Uru yawned helplessly as she settled into her father's big brown paws. "Uru? Are you tired?" The princess nodded slowly, about to drift into a deep slumber.
"Uru, you know... great kings of the past watch us from the stars," Mohatu spoke. Perking up in interest, Uru jerked her head up, and widely opened her eyes. "Right now, your grandfather is watching you. He's proud of you. Whenever you feel alone, look up to the stars for guidance. I'll be up there, too, one day. I'll be a star." He chuckled but stopped when the princess spoke.
Tiredly, the princess exhaled. "I bet you'll be the biggest star, daddy." she muttered, before shutting her eyes and being stolen by a deep slumber. Mohatu stayed quiet for a moment, surprised and confused. He leaned forward and licked his sleeping daughter, smiling warmly.
"Thank you... my princess..." he turned his gaze back to the stars, and the moon...
Author's Note.
I just felt like doing somethin' cute x3 I always imagined that Uru was correct about Mohatu being the brightest/biggest star, and perhaps that left an imprint on him and it carried on for generations?
*Note* I also believe Uru is Mohatu's daughter. It's just my belief/theory. So, I'm not forcing you to believe it, and I'm not requesting critiques on it either x. I haven't planned a design or name for her mother yet - or theory, but I have a few ideas kickin' around...
Really short, one-chapter "story"! Hope you enjoyed! Please review x3 Thanks for reading!
