Just a very short one-shot that kept bugging me. I've been itching to write for SVU so here's my introduction into it! Not really femslash-y but if you're like me, you know it's only the beginning of their relationship. Hope you like this!

Spoilers: 4x14 Mercy.

Summary: Having someone to talk too can't be too bad.

Characters: Alex Cabot, Olivia Benson, mentions Andrea & Sarah Brown.

I can't believe I did that, Alex mused as she threw her purse onto her sofa. She hadn't felt comfortable with anything about this case; it was just too….personal in her opinion. Of course, her detectives didn't know that but it didn't change anything. It didn't change the violation she felt for those college girls whose privacy they had completely invaded. It didn't change the frustration, sympathy, or the horror she felt for Andrea Brown. Alex could see the pain, anguish on the woman's face while she was on the witness stand but the law was the law. It was moments like today where she realized, the law isn't always black and white. There are so many shades and hues of gray that it scares her but she has a job to do. No matter how emotionally draining it was. Grabbing a glass of wine, she makes her way to her bedroom.

Guilty was one way to describe Olivia Benson later that same night. She couldn't sleep, hadn't even considered eating. All she kept seeing was the betrayal on the young women's faces as she asked them about their babies. And the honest to goodness grief that was on Andrea's face as she told her story, Olivia would admit it broke her heart. Strangely, despite all of these being enough to lose sleep over, it was Alex that plagued her mind. The defensiveness, the look of annoyance, heartbreak, the grief on her face when they spoke of getting a copy of the records. She didn't know what it meant, but there was something deeper there, something Olivia potentially wouldn't ever understand but she had to accept that. Turning over and looking at her ringing cell phone with a sigh, she welcomes the distraction.

"Benson." The tone is clipped and it brings a sense of calm to Alex when she hears it.

"Detective Benson," she says formally. "I hope I didn't wake you." She says glancing over at the clock that read just after two am.

"Alex?" Olivia questions and Alex can hear the shock in her voice. "No, no, I was awake." She insists.

"Great." Alex says then stops, at a loss of what else to say.

"I couldn't…I couldn't sleep tonight." Olivia says after a few minutes of just them breathing.

"Neither could I." Alex says softly. "Do you think….I mean would you…" Alex stutters uncharacteristically.

"There's this little diner over by the 1-6; they're not fancy, but they have great food." Olivia says finally. Alex smiles.

"Married to the job, are we?" she asks jokingly. She hears the soft chuckle,

"Yeah." Olivia says finally. "I'll see you in half an hour?" Olivia asks. Alex nods then clears her throat,

"Half an hour." She confirms, "And Detective?" she catches her before the call is disconnected.

"Yeah?" Olivia questions.

"Thank you." She says softly.

"No problem." Olivia says. "Alex?" it's her turn to catch the other woman.

"Yes, Detective?" Alex questions.

"Stop calling me Detective." She says and disconnects the call. Alex chuckles, smiling down at her phone and taking a deep breath. It wasn't going to make cases any easier, but maybe having someone to talk to them about wouldn't hurt either.
