Hallo everyone! This is a story based off the Karen inherits Mysterion's powers after Mysterion gets his wish for Cthulu to kill him. This will all be in Karen's perspective by the way. Hope you enjoy!

"Alright students, before you leave off for winter break, I have an assignment for you," the teacher announced. Groans, including my own, filled the room. And here I was hoping that I would be able to spend a couple of weeks care-free. "Now now, it won't be that hard. Honestly, I think you'll all enjoy this. It's called a 'My Hero' letter. So for you boys, you can write about your favorite superhero or sports player, and for you girls, Selena Gomez or whatever kinds of music artists you're in to. An-" The chimes of freedom rang throughout the school as an uproar of cheers erupted as kids stampeded out of their classrooms. I watched as all hell broke loose in my classroom. Classmates ran amok, spilling papers, crayons, and pushing and shoving themselves out the door.

I patiently gathered my things, putting my notebooks one-by-one into my worn down backpack. I casually left the classroom, waving a goodbye to Ms. Fricks on the way out. I walked through the chaos that was our hallways, the consequence of squeezing six generations of kids into one school. I finally reached the big metal doors at the front of the building and pushed my way out. I took a breath of fresh air and felt a huge weight lift off of my shoulders as my mind finally adjusted to the idea that I was free for two weeks. The hero assignment lingered in my mind as I walked down the concrete stairs onto the sidewalk, as my eyes searched the yard for a vibrant orange parka.

I smiled as I spotted the best brother in the world leaning by the wall waiting for me. I ran up to him in a hug, hearing a small grunt as I pushed him into the brick wall he used as a splint. I quickly pulled away at the sound. "Kenny! I'm sorry! I-" A pat from his brown-gloved hands interrupted my spew of apologies. I looked up to his partly covered face, blushing in embarrassment.

"It's okay, Karen. No need to worry about it!" his eyes smiled as he gave me a thumbs up to prove that he was fine. I giggled in relief as I gripped his hand as tight as I could. We walked towards our home slowly, hands swinging in between us. "So how was your last day of school for this year?" he asked casually, voice muffled by his pulled-tight hood.

"It was fun! We made glitter snowmen and had some hot chocolate at lunch! But..." I started.

"But what?" his concerned eyes bored into me. I knew that about a million thoughts raced through his mind, like it always does when it comes to my health. It was nice to know that I would always have Kenny here with me, interested and involved with everything I had to say.

"Oh nothing big. Just a small assignment called a 'My Hero' letter," I answered. Kenny sighed in relief and relaxed a little.

"Doesn't seem that bad. So what ya gonna write about?" he asked, a hint of curiosity laced in his words.

I sighed and stopped walking. My brother stopped as well, watching my movements very closely. "Well, that's the problem. I don't know who or what to write about. Do you think you could help me?" I offered, slightly excited.

"Oh, I don't think so, Karen," he sadly said.

"Why not?" my shoulders drooped. Well, I guess he can't do everything, but I was really hoping that he would help me out with this one.

"Well, how am I supposed to know who your 'hero' is," he chuckled. I relaxed slightly. "Here, how about I help you in this way," we continued walking,"Who do you look up to every day?"

I stayed silent for a while as I thought about his question. "Uh, this is sort of embarrassing, but you know that superhero from a few months back, Mysterion?" I watched Kenny jump up suddenly at the mention of the vigilante.

He cleared his throat quickly,"Yea?"

"I consider him a person I look up to. He would always come and comfort me when I was crying, no matter where I was or what time it was. He was just... always there! It's pretty magical if you think about it. He would always help anyone in need, no matter their race or class or gender. He's special."

"Hmm."

"What?" I asked.

"Oh nothing," he calmly said. We walked in silence for a while. We went past main street and all their restaurants and- My stomach suddenly growled in reply to all the different aromas drifting around the street. I blushed as Kenny stared back at me. "I guess someone didn't get a big lunch," he joked. I laughed a little. "Hey, you know what? I got some spare change floating around. How 'bout we go to the KFC and get us some popcorn chicken, and maybe some ice cream after if we have enough," he offered.

"Really?! You would do that! Oh thank you thank you thank you Kenny!" I catapulted onto my brother, arms squeezing around his torso.

"Heh, no problem," he wrapped his arm around me in return.

I bounced in my seat, looking at all the different colors of the KFC. Aromas of chicken drifted into my nose, making me lick my lips in hunger and anxiety. I watched as Kenny returned with a tray in his hands. He sat down at our table and slid the tray towards my direction. I grabbed a popcorn chicken and was about to pop it into my mouth when I saw that Kenny wasn't grabbing anything. I slowly put down the ball of chicken,"Uh, you want some?"

"Oh no, I'm not hungry," he assured,"go ahead!" I watched him closely for a second before delving into my feast. As I was enjoying the chicken, my brother was sta'ring at the TV screen that was positioned in the corner of the fast food restaurant which blared the news.

In other news folks, BP has once again reopened the hole that once hosted the dark lord Cthulu. He has arisen once more, with his faithful companion the Coon."

"As we speak, the two are reigning terror on the east coast, but seem to be heading west into the mountains."

"We'll keep you updated every half hour, but for now, try to stay inside, just in case."

"Now for our other story topic, here are Puppies in Hats."

I watched as Kenny suddenly got up. "Where you going?" I asked, my shoulders grew in height with tension. I felt him grip my hand and start to pull me out of the restaurant.

"Karen, we have to go home now," he ordered. I broke my hand free of his tight grasp and caught up with his fast pace.

"Why? Kenny, what's going on?" the fear in my voice rose.

"Something that I don't want you getting involved in," he answered blatantly. We sped-walk in silence until we passed the train tracks that separated our house from the rest of society. It was nothing special. Just a run down green shack, surrounded by junk and infested with rats and the smell of smoke and alcohol. You get used to it after a while. You could hear yelling emit from the paper-thin walls. I was about to grab open the front door before Kenny pulled me over to the side. He led me to my bedroom window and opened the rusty glass panes with ease. He plopped me inside and followed suit.

"Kenny-" I started. He turned to me, his face completely serious, devoid of the happiness he had just mere minutes before. There was a sadness in his expression as well, like he knew something he didn't want to tell me.

"Karen, I want you to stay inside until I come back. Don't open the door, don't open the window, don't go outside, even when you hear sounds and screaming. Okay?" he commanded.

"Okay... Kenny, promise me you'll come back soon," I meekly said, gripping the side of my bed.

"Promise, and we can get ice cream afterwards. Any kind that you want. But I have to go now," he wrapped me into a tight hug,"I love you, Karen, always remember that and no matter what happens, I will always be here with you. No matter what." I felt the presence of my brother leave me alone, as the rusted window was slammed shut. I wrapped myself in my uncomfortable mattress, hugging the dolly Kenny gave me for my birthday a while back.

A pit of worry grew as I waited hours upon hours for Kenny to come back. The explosions and loud noises he had warned about soon came after he left my room. The screams followed suit. I got out of my bed and pushed my ear next to the door, hoping to ear some of the news over the yelling of my parents.

"It certainly is hectic out there, folks! We advice you to stay out of it at all costs and let the authorities handl-"

"Oh my God! Who is that! What is that kid doing?"

I went against my brother's orders and pushed open my door. I quietly looked around the corner to get a look at our TV screen. I watched in horror as I saw my guardian angel run into the fray and up to the gigantic monster that continued to destroy our quiet mountain town. I don't know what I was thinking when I went back to my room, opened my window, and jumped outside into the fresh snow. I looked up to see storm clouds, raging among the skies. I hugged my coat tighter as I headed to main street, to where the chaos reigned.

As I ran in the streets, I surpassed destroyed buildings, fallen people, and wrecked cars. It was terrible. I tried to focus out of the destruction and on to my main point of breaking the rules, Mysterion.

I finally reached my destination and stood among the audience of people who witnessed the fight between immortals. I recognized Kenny's little group of superhero friends who somehow got in touch with Mysterion.

"Stan! What's going on?" I called out to "Tool Shed". He turned around, shocked to see my face among the crowd.

"Karen! What are you doing here? I thought Kenny told you to stay inside!" he sternly said.

"Well, I saw Mysterion getting hurt out here and I wanted to give him support! Oh yea, by the way, do you know where Kenny went?" I asked, concern for my brother rose against the excitement of watching my hero in action.

"He hasn't told her yet?" Kyle piped in.

"I guess not," Stan answered,"Uh Karen, this might be hard to take in, but Kenny is-"

We were interrupted by a large gasp of pain emit from the large creature as Mysterion finally got a hit. The monster began to fall as Mysterion started to leave the scene. "Mysterion!" I called out as I started to run out to him.

"Karen, no!" Stan tried to grab my arm, but I was too quick. The vigilante I had hailed turned around and looked at me in utter horror and shock.

"Karen?! What are you doing here?! You're not supposed to be here!"

"I know, but I wanted to support you!" I ran up to hug him. A large groan of pain escaped from him at first contact. I quickly pulled away, gathering a residue of a dark liquid on my shirt. I fingered the liquid on my shirt, leaving a red residue on my finger. My eyes widened at the sight of it. "Mysterion?" I shakily said. I stared up at him. A small smile appeared on his face.

"Well, look at that," he stared at his gashed open abdomen and chuckled. The hero fell to his knees. Tears gathered in my eyes as I watched the vigilante fall. He gasped in pain as he tried to talk.

"No, don't say anything. You're gonna be fine, you're gonna be fine," I choked out. I felt his hand cover my mouth softly. I looked at the vigilante, tears obscuring my vision. His shakily gripped his mask as he started to tug it off. My eyes widened at the sight of the boy revealed, the best brother in the world. "Kenny?!" My brother fell to the ground. He stared at me and smiled, weakly gripping my hand.

"I'm sorry, Karen. I should've told you sooner, I should've been a better brother,"he whispered. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a twenty dollar bill. "Get whatever kind of ice cream you want, Karen." He offered the twenty dollar bill to me as I shook my head.

"No! We were gonna get ice cream together! I don't want to be alone Kenny! You promised!" I shouted. I could feel the crowd's gaze resting on the two of us, but I didn't care.

"Remember Karen,"his pained eyes locked with mine as his hand shakily rose to where my heart would be,"I will always be here with you. No matter what..." His hand fell to the ground as his last breath escaped him.

"Kenny!" I gripped his caped and cried furiously into it. I felt two hands prying me away softly. I watched as I was dragged away from the body of my favorite person in the world, my hero. And no amount of ice cream would get him back.
