This is my first fanfic, so if you review don't be too harsh please! I know this kind of idea has probably been done before, but oh well...enjoy!
Katara looked across the endless layer of ice in front of her. She started to walk, not knowing where to go. "Katara" whispered a familiar voice. Could it be who she thought it was? "Follow my voice, Katara." Her walk soon changed into a run to get closer to the voice.
Suddenly, a figure was visible across the ice. Katara began running towards the person. It was her mother. Tears began to fill Katara's eyes as she ran closer and closer to her mother.
"MOM!" yelled Katara.
"I'm here for you," said her mother as a smile danced across her face "just not on this earth."
Katara stopped inches away from her mother, completely confused with what was happening. Unexpectedly, the ice beneath her began to break. The ice collapsed and she fell into the water. Her mother's figure was fading away as she fell deeper and deeper into the darkness of the water.
"I'm always here for you" said her mother. Everything went black. Her mother whispered into her ear, "Wake up."

The sun was rising when Katara was awoken from her horrible dream, almost a nightmare. She stared across to see Sokka, Toph, Momo and Appa asleep. Aang wasn't in the campsite, but Katara knew he was used to waking up early.
Why was this reoccurring dream haunting her? She knew that her mother was always a part of her, but it was still painful remembering. Katara stroked her necklace as she thought about the dream. She needed to get this off of her mind. She got up and started walking towards the river. Maybe that would help.
As Katara got to the rivers edge, she sat down and took her shoes off. She dipped her toes into the water, pulling away at first because of the cold, but then finding it soothing. She closed her eyes. "I'm always here for you."
She couldn't hold back anymore, tears began to fall freely from her eyes. Katara drew her knees up to her chest and laid her head on them. Her sobs began to overpower her as she thought about her mother. How could anyone take her away?
"Katara?" called an all too familiar voice. Aang cautiously walked up to Katara careful not to frighten her. "Are you ok?"
Katara looked up at the sympathetic monk, he was always there when she needed him. She stared into his thoughtful eyes and smiled.
"I'm fine, just remembering." said Katara.
Aang sat down next to Katara and looked into her eyes. "It's that dream again, isn't it?"
"Aang, I don't want to talk about it." Katara sighed.
Aang moved closer and put a supportive arm around her back. "You don't have to, just know that I'm here to help." Katara began to lean her head on Aang's shoulder, and she could feel the heat rising in his cheeks. They just sat and stared at the river, not paying attention to time. After a while, Katara lifted her head to look into Aang's beautiful grey eyes.
"Thank you" she said.
"For what?" said Aang with a puzzled look on his face.
"For always being here." A sincere smile crept across Aang's face after hearing this.
Katara nuzzled her head further into Aang's shoulder, cherishing this moment. Aang was always here for her.
