This my second story, so please be nice and review!
Disclaimer: Not mine. And, like a fool, I realized I forgot the disclaimer on my other story, so I don't own anything in that either...
"I'm going to have to be somewhat mean to you from now on."
They were standing together on the stairs. She was looking out the window, her eyes fixed on the construction. He was standing somewhat behind her, looking over her shoulder. His face creased into a frown.
"Why?"
A pause.
"Don't worry, it's only temporary—"
"What did I do to merit this?" His voice was quiet, and if she didn't know him better she would have thought he was laughing. She could barely hear him against the wind wailing around the building.
"Do you actually want the reason?" She turned to him, smirking.
"…I'll let you decide that." She barely heard him. Her mind was racing with unanswered questions, with what-ifs and maybes. She opened her mouth, closed it again.
"Okay then."
And they walked down the hill together, silent, the shattered remains of a friendship dragging behind them.
