Title: Perfect

Summary: songfic post The Job. Jim and Pam are going to get it right this time.

A/N: Pam Beesly has a playlist on iTunes, and "Angel" by Jane Jensen was on it. It led me to her other songs. This one is "Perfect".

If I made it so wrong, I can make it right

You say you always aim too low

Right now I'm ready to get about as low as you need to go

He was almost running as he left the corporate office. He could get to Scranton by four-thirty if he drove five over the speed limit.

He was sick of this. Their timing was always off, but not now. He was getting it right this time around.

He had watched for years, watched her with Roy. She thought that was what she deserved. She thought that was what love was. She had no idea, but he never told her.

He was telling her now.

You wrestle down the boy inside

But you're not your father, not your mother, not your wounded pride

Your heart is more than money and it's so much more than fame

And now that I've known you mine will never be the same

She kept looking up at his empty desk. The interview would be over by now. Had he gotten the note? Had he gotten the job? Was he celebrating with Karen?

She didn't know what she would do if he wasn't there everyday. His first week in Scranton was supposed to be her last; she was planning to quit. But then he came. He changed things. He made her like her job.

When he had gone to Stamford, things had been horrible. She had hurt him and she knew that, but he hurt her too. But she got her feet back on the ground. She fixed things for herself.

That's what she would have to do this time around too. She'd take care of herself. She could do that.

She thought about it as she looked at his empty chair and ignored the copies she was supposed to be making.

She'd quit.

Without him there was no reason to stay.

I've heard all the stories with the sad endings

See I'm not broken but I keep bending

Guess I'm here to save the damn day

My superman has been delayed

He remembered the pain when she told him she was still going to marry Roy, but none of it compared to the smile on her face at that moment.

He didn't know why it had taken him so long. Seriously, how did it take so long? Why did he wait this long?

Confused, misled, misguided lost

With my heart bound at such a cost

With all the words I have to say

Just know yourself this one won't fade away

She had just been telling the cameras that they could never get the timing right. But had he just gotten the timing right?

She wanted him and he wanted her. Right now. This was it. They got it right this time.

I can't let you go

I don't wanna let you go

You don't have to aim so low

We can get about as high as you need to go

He would give her anything. He knew that. She knew that.

She now understood what had been missing with Roy. Roy didn't care about her the way he did. This was more than she could have ever imagined but it was exactly what she expected. Because he always exceeded her imagination. Because he always cared a little bit more than anyone expected. Because he was always one step kinder, one step funnier, one step sweeter, than anyone else—even when it didn't come to her.

When it came to her, he would do anything.

It was real this time. This time the timing was right. This time was now, and this time was perfect.

Let's be perfect

You and me right now

Let's just try

Let's be perfect

You and me, right here
