Simon Says

by Osiris-Ra

Simon Says. That's all it really is, isn't it? A game. A rather silly game being played out.

Simon says, who am I? It's up to you to figure it out.

I know you, Simon. I've seen you. You watch them with a smile, you help them, and you fight with them. You cry with them, you sleep with them, you eat with them. They trust you and you trust them – to be ignorant of your intentions.

Who is Simon? What's Simon doing? Simon says...run! The monster is coming! Simon says...lie flat! Get on your back! Roll over for me! Simon says...push the button! Push the button, he says, why should I?

Is he the Scottish bloke who ran away? No, you say. He ran, he's a victim. He's a coward. Is he?

Is Simon the quiet African? Sitting alone, carving on his Jesus Stick. How sacrilegious, to hide behind the veil of religion. Simon says, wash away your sins.

Or perhaps, you're the faithless doctor. Running around, healing everyone. Mr. Fix-It. Hey, Mr. Fix-It. Come fix me. Can you fix me? Or have you already?

Or maybe...yes, maybe, Simon's the one you'd never suspect. Maybe Simon's the one who's the most afraid. Is it the cop? Is our friend Simon a friend of the law? Who's Law? We see you, copper. Sitting alone. Watching us. Just who are you watching? Are you afraid? Or are you hiding? Simon says..."you're not afraid? Get afraid!"

Or maybe Simon is the hunter. The stoic defender, created half by fate, half by the island magic's. Simon says, don't tell me what I can't do! I tell you.

Or maybe Simon is high as a kite. Stowing away biblical figures in the manger of the Shadow. Simon says, be my family.

Simon says, I broke the Law, the Law did not break me. Is that you, over there, with the dimples and the crude grin curling your lips? Or is it you, She With The Long Brown Hair and searching eyes? What are you waiting for? Who are you waiting for?

Maybe we'll never find Simon. Simon is good, that I'll give Him. He's a chameleon, slinking through the sands, unnoticed. I know you're out there, Simon. I can feel you, watching me. Can you feel me? Watching you?
