Song of the Night
Disclaimer: Nope, I don't own anything here.
Warning: Minor cursing.
"Do you want to spend the rest of your life… waiting for him, and swearing to love him forever?" He asked, his white eyes staring at her intently.
"…Of course, yes, I mean… why not?" Sakura paused, biting her lip.
Her voice faltered. "I mean, didn't I spend my childhood… waiting for this moment to come…? Of course… I'm delighted at his proposal. Really, I am."
She clenched her fist tightly, her knuckles turning white.
"I waited so long for him just to turn around, to look at me. I trained every night, when I thought no one was looking. I tried improving my skills, I really did…" Sakura paused, laughing mirthlessly. "He obviously didn't notice, did he? It's been six years already. I'm a woman, I do need love sometimes."
She paused, taking a small sip from the can of beer in front of her.
He waited patiently for her to continue, his eyes never leaving her face.
"When I finally thought of giving up on him, he suddenly turned around and acted really nice and caring to me. I was so delusional to believe that he actually cares." Sakura sniffled. "The next day, he ignored me; like whatever we shared was… nothing. I was so sick of the hot and cold treatment I was getting."
She breathed in deeply.
"One fine day, he proposed to me. He looked up, and said, 'Spend your life with me.' It was not exactly the marriage proposal I was looking for, was it?" Her dry laughter echoing the empty inn. "I was stunned, didn't he hate me?"
She looked wistfully at her left hand. The small diamond on her finger glittered in the light. "I guess… that's that already."
His white eyes narrowed slightly. "Are you sure that you want to live your life… with that… bastard?"
Sakura offered a small, sad smile. "I can't change anything, can I, Neji?"
To be continued.
Author's Note: Yeah, I know it's short. Give me time. And yes, it's going to continue. Probably a sad love triangle of sorts, but believe me, Sakura will know who really loves her. (x
