"Hey, how come they only gave us one ice cream?" said Korra accusingly looking for the waiter.

"It's alright, let's share it. Just between us girls," Asami winked and let go of a flirty smile in the avatar's direction, "You first."

Korra paused briefly at the attention and picked up her spoon to take a bite. "Gosh, this is really good."

Asami smiled with relief and took a bite. They ate like this for a while, one by one, in silence as the rest of the ice cream parlor talked and clamored, the window next to their booth showed a bustling Republic City on a hot afternoon.

The heiress broke the silence.

"This was one of my favorite places to go as a kid with my mom…and my dad." At the last part of her sentence she looked down at the table pensively.

Korra's shoulder's shrank. "Hey Asami, Look I'm really sorry about your father. I mean, he's not dead but you're in a pretty tough place right now. And I can imagine that that's really hard to deal with. I can't thank you enough for the support and sacrifice you've given."

Asami moved her eyes up to meet Korra's. "You're a really kind person you know that Korra?"

Korra paused with a spoonful of ice cream in her mouth, blushing a little. "Who me?"

"Yes," Asami lifted her head up. "This has been such a difficult time of my life, and even if I hadn't met you, I still would've disagreed with my father. But having you by my side has made it so much more bearable. I'm not happy about my situation, but I'm happy to be here beside you."

Korra had one hand on the table and another holding the ice cream utensil. Asami reached across the small table and placed her hand on top of the avatar's.

Korra let out a very gracious smile and looked down at Asami's hand atop of hers. She forgot all about the ice cream and the noise of the parlor around them and turned her hand over to entwine her fingers with Asami's.

"I'm really glad you've been by my side too," she looked across the table into those emerald green eyes, with the softest look on her face that Asami had ever seen. They held each other's hands, unabashed at the world around them, and softly gazed into each other's eyes until Korra finally gave in and leaned forward to plant a gentle kiss on Asami's lips. This time it was the heiress's turn to blush.

Asami let out a sigh. "You're beautiful, Korra."

Korra smirked a little and pointed at the young woman she had just kissed, "No, you're beautiful."

Her pose and playful words made Asami laugh, and Korra leaning on her elbow with one arm, and holding Asami's hand in the other smiled at the sight.

Author's note: I never got the feeling that Korra or Asami were the kind of people to ignore their feelings for another person. That they would always be aware of it, and would not regret acting on it. I guess that's my favorite part about these two. Their personalities make everything they do for each other so forward yet subtle at the same time. Ugh. Feels.
