Disclamer : Game of Thrones isn't my property or else, Lancel would be the king of the Seven Kingdoms.

Summary: If the man would forget for the realm's sake, the father would remember everything.

Author's note: This is a translation of my Kevan OS I wrote months ago, right after the first episode of season 5 aired. Therefore, I was unaware of what would happen next. Please forgive my language if there are mistakes, english isn't my first language, I am french. Dont' hesitate to point out the said mistakes or weird things to help me improve

Words are silver but silence is gold

" I apologize for my son's appearance."

That was the signal and Lancel seemed to have understood, as he left them. Because if he knew his child was aware of hiw views about his new way of life, Kevan didn't want to hurt him with his words. Lancel had suffered enough when he was recovering. His wound, the feeling of being abandoned, of betrayal, Martyn and Willem's deaths... He didn't think his son's faith as something foolish. To insult him on that would have meant insulting his mother too, as she was a very pious woman and that, Kevan would have never allowed it. Faith helped and comforted his boy when he couldn't, or when he couldn't enough.

" Uncle, it's quite alright. "

If he remained calm he could feel his blood boiling. Cersei was partly responsible for Lancel's new status.

He knew.

About her pushing him on his opened bleeding wound.

About their intimate affair.

Lancel had told him everything. Just like he told him to not blame her. That he was partly responsible. That he forgave her for what she did to him. Out of respect for him, he would remain silent about it in front of her. But he would not let her manipulate him. He loved his royal niece, he genuinely loved her. But that love wouldn't blind him. It wouldn't blind him anymore. What happened to his son restored his sight. When he had sent his eldest boy to King's Landing to be the king's squire, he had thought that, without babying him, Cersei would have watched over him. That she would have listened to him, helped him. That if women started to raise his interest, because after all he was old enough for that, she would have made him meet young ladies from good families. And if he couldn't take them as wives, he could have, at least, befriended them. That would have brought new potential allies for the Lannisters.

But no.

Instead, she made him discover her sheets before breaking his heart along with his arm, with the arrow stuck in his shoulder, which caused Lancel other deadly pathologies.

" I'm guilty, Father. I have been weak. I could have said no. I should have said no."

Weak? No, Lancel wasn't weak in Kevan's eyes. Or else, he would have died because of the fever that was consuming him. Lancel was young, innocent, without any real experience of the world. And at his age, how to say no to a queen, without any fears for the consequences? If Kevan could agree with him on one flaw, that was his lack of common sense. Linked to his youth. And that brought them back to the start. And that would never change this:

Lancel had his entire life ahead of him, with countless opportunities at his feet to forge himself a destiny, a pretty life.

And Cersei wasted it all.

And if he loved his niece, he loved his son even more and he would keep the oaths he made to him. If he would help his king, born of his queenly niece, Kevan Lannister would never forgive her for what she dared do to the blood of his blood, the flesh of his flesh.

The End
