This is just my idea of what a twenty-fourth chapter in 'The Giver' might have looked like, with Jonas finding 'the Village.' It's really short, and mainly just a conclusion that I wrote in my English class while everyone else was finishing off reading the book. I do not own The Giver or its sequels, Gathering Blue and Messenger.

'Elsewhere'

Jonas got up off the sled and walked, using the music to guide him. He was still unsure of what he would find, but he hoped that he was heading in the right direction to the 'elsewhere' that he, and the sleeping new child he held close to him, so desperately needed. He felt his energy slowly slip from his body, but he held on for Gabriel's sake. The further he pushed on, the louder the music seemed to get. And soon he found himself standing in front of a village, filled with houses and stores and people. The village was also full of music, life and joy. And love, Jonas thought.

"Hello," Jonas called; his voice hoarse from saying nothing other than to murmur words of comfort to Gabriel. "Can somebody help me?" He cried, trying to get somebody's attention. Gabriel stirred; he had been awoken by Jonas' shouting. Jonas hurriedly walked into the street of the village, to get somebody to help. Someone, a woman, noticed him.

"Hello young man, can I help you?" She asked, looking concerned at him. Jonas held baby Gabriel out to the woman. "Take him." He told her, and she grabbed the baby, carefully wrapping him up as he shuddered in the cold. And now that Gabriel was safe in the woman's arms, Jonas finally submitted to the darkness that had been threatening to take over for most of the trip.

When Jonas awoke, there was man sitting next to his bed.

"Who are you?" Jonas asked sleepily.

"I am glad to see you are awake now, my name is Christopher." The man said.

"My name is Jonas," Jonas told the man.

"I know… this Village has been waiting for a long time for you, Jonas." The older man smiled, and it made Jonas think about the Giver. Jonas smiled back.

"I'm sorry I kept you waiting."
