NOT PENNY'S BOAT
NOT PENNY'S BOAT
april 2008
Scrappy little English boy
With the cinnamon-bun ears
I think I dreamed about you last night -
You were strumming your guitar and
Singing a song about being saved by love.
And although it was fiction
I cried when you crossed yourself
In that bright blue flooded room
And died,
One checkered sneaker slipping deeper down into the gloom.
In my world she was never the same after that
Although in theirs her smile,
that radiant betrayal,
Persevered.
In my world she missed you just as much as I do.
Maybe someday soon
I can create something wonderful for you
To play a part in,
A noble knight or drunken lord,
Or lost and hopeful boy in need of love.
