An Empty Existence

He never had a name to call his own, but he had been named by the person who had created him; Ganondorf. The name he was given was Dark Link, and his sole purpose was to kill the real Link. But when he had lost, and was defeated, he still found himself clinging to life. Even though he should have died each of those times he lost to Link, he was still able to cling to life. Dark Link had been beaten so many times by Link, that he believed his existence to be an empty one.

Still, it was his only purpose for existence and, despite Ganondorf's defeat at the hands of Link, he wanted revenge on the person who had beaten so many times. That was his only purpose, his only goal. After so many years of searching the land of Hyrule for where the boy had settled, he had finally found him. The place he found himself was Lake Hylia, where he found a small house situated on the farthest side of Kakariko Village.

It was within this house, that Dark Link had found the person he had wanted to kill. The man had aged considerably. The last time they met Link was 17, but now he had to be much older than that. Dark Link drew his sword and pointed it at Link, who was sitting in a chair. He had no idea whether or not to kill him; striking a man so old was wrong on so many levels. But Dark Link was reminded by what Ganondorf had told him upon creation, "You are instrument of evil. You have no emotions, thus you do not know regret, fear or sorrow. Find Link, and kill him!"

If this was true, then how could feel a strange emotion course through him. He knew he could have done it so easily, just put the sword through him and watch him die. But something was stopping him. He didn't know why, but he dropped the sword and shield he carried with him and walked out of the house.

Outside, he found himself face to face with several armed men on horses. Two of them dismounted their horse and walked into the house. The most decorated of the men rode his horse up to stranger who emerged from their hero's house.

"What is your name?" he asked. Dark Link would have answered, but he couldn't. The dark incarnation of Link no longer had a purpose to exist. He looked at the man on his horse, before saying, "I don't have any."

"That's a shame," the man said. He looked at the village around him and said, "I don't recognize your face, are you a new resident here?"

"No."

"I see," the man said, "What's your business here then?"

"I'm not so sure anymore," Dark Link said. He walked past the man. As he walked away the man called, "Where are you going?"

Dark Link stopped in his tracks. It was a good question, where would he go. What would he do? For the past years, his sole purpose was to kill Link, but now, he was not sure what he was going to do. He looked up at the looming volcano over the village. He eyed and said, "The Mountain."

"Be careful then," the man said, "That mountain is not a mountain but actually a volcano. It appears that it will erupt any day now."

"I will keep it in mind," with that Dark Link left. He knew what he was going to do now. He set up to the volcano's summit.
