DISCLAIMER: I do not own "Naruto"
Sasuke sat high amongst the boughs of a sakura tree. The sky was black with storm clouds and rain fell furiously to the earth. The branches whipped about in an energetic dance, while sakura blossoms clung desperately to the boughs. A petal dropped in front of Sasuke's dazed eyes, drawing him from his solemn thoughts.
Returning to Konoha hadn't been anything like he'd expected. He had returned on his own two feet with no one trying to hold him back and no one encouraging him onward. After everything he had done, both his teams had given up on him. He had served his time without complaint and became the very picture of the perfect civilian. No more shinobi business for him. It was driving him crazy…but not nearly as crazy as Sakura's behavior. He had returned to rebuild his clan. But, if he were honest with himself, Sakura was the reason he had returned. He had always viewed her as a potential wife.
Always.
Even when he had been twelve years old, he had been thinking about a possible future with Sakura. A future without Itachi. Revenge had been the priority. Perhaps he had his priorities mixed up, because now she wouldn't even talk to him. It had been three years. He had been back three years and she had yet to behave kindly towards him. The saying was true; Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
He berated himself for being so stubborn—for being such a coward. She ignored him so he ignored her too. Well, he tried, but couldn't. She was the one woman who had ever meant anything to him. She was starting to encompass his thoughts. He wanted to protect her like he always used to. But it was more than that. He simply wanted to be there for her because…because he loved her.
His mother had taught him that love was more than just warm feelings. Love was action. Love was doing what was best for someone else, even at the risk of your own wellbeing. He had never been good at showing love. He knew that Sakura was broken inside. He knew that he had hurt her. It was time to fix it—everything. It was time he put his love into action.
He jumped from the tree branch and landed perfectly on the pavement below. He ran for all his worth even against the battering wind and rain. He ran for everything he had given up. For everything he wanted. He ran for the hope that things could be better…that he could be happy…that he could make her happy.
He reached her door and knocked, praying, hoping that she was home. As soon as the door opened and he saw her—the most beautiful girl in the world—he pulled her to him and kissed her passionately. Her initial shock and stiffness melted away as she kissed him back. When their lips parted, he breathed deep.
"I'm sorry."
A/N: So this came from SasuSaku_Month's prompt for today. It was written to explain one of girlUknown's beautiful pictures. She's on deviantArt incase you didn't know. Hope you enjoyed this little one-shot.
By the way...anybody else completely confused by this week's chapter? Is Neji trying to kill Sakura? And if he is, why?
But what Sakura said to her patient about having "someone else" just made me so happy! There's still bubbling hope.
